CHINA: SALESIAN PUBLISHES NEW WORK ON DEALING WITH DELINQUENTS

HONG KONG: 3rd December '03 -- Fr. Peter Newbery, Founder and Executive director of Hong Kong's Youth Outreach organisation, has published his fourth title in a series of works dealing with young people in difficulties.  His latest title, which contains both the English and the Chinese text, is called 'Dealing with Delinquents'.  The directness of the title is indicative of Peter Newbery's direct writing style.  The book carefully avoids technical language and is meant to be read by those who need it most - the teachers, the parents, or others who are in a position to be dealing with young people who are boisterous or lively.  The author makes the point that it is often the school system and its way of treating such young people that pushes them out of the category of 'student' and into that of 'delinquent.
While written for and drawing upon the experience of the Hong Kong situation, there is no question but that this is a book to be put into the hands of teachers or parents almost anywhere.  It is loaded with hints, do's and don'ts, and behind the easy-reading facade, contains solid research and, to boot, the 36 years experience amongst Hong Kong's young people of the teacher, counsellor, spocial worker, priest and Salesian that make Peter Newbery what he is - one of the best recognised figures in China for his successful work amongst the young.  In addition to the work for Youth Outreach, Peter is an honorary part-time Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong Department of Social Worka nd Social Administration.  He is a much sought-after speaker on youth issues.
The book is available from Vox Amic Press Hong Kong Fax: (852) 2568 4161
