One Salesian Mission - three neighbouring countries

PHNOM PENH: 6th September 2009 -- Mr. Sanya Boonpasert, Thailand’s Don Bosco Technical School, Bangkok past pupil heading up our presence in Vientiane, led a delegation of officials from the Lao People's Democratic Republic on a technical and vocational training visit to Don Bosco Technical Schools in Cambodia from September 2-4, 2009.

Laos, as a new frontier of the Salesian Mission, has been coordinated by Fr. Tito Pedron and the Don Bosco Technical School of Bangkok. The Salesian  presence started in 2004 in Vientiane. Two vocational training centers are now openly serving as demonstration centers for vocational skills training by the young instructors for young Laotians.
Interest for the visit was focused on the technical vocational education and training system at Don Bosco Technical Schools in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. They were much impressed by the workshop policies and programmes reinforcing the skilled labour force of the country in harmony with local government priorities. They were encouraged by what they have seen and heard from the local students, graduates and teachers, and based on their comments, the Lao delegation is prepared to tackle on-going dialogue and adoption of Don Bosco TVET programs for the rehabilitation, integration and empowerment of Lao youth. They were also interested in bringing education to the grassroots level based on their visits to Don Bosco Children Fund Ministries in Phnom Penh.
The visit also serves as a unifying force of three country neighbors offering  one Salesian mission on technical schools and vocational centers for youth who have no opportunities to learn in order to train them for life skills of employment in order to become protagonists in the poverty reduction awareness of their countries.
