Rosary is all the go with the kids in Mongolia

DARKHAN: 20th October 2005 --  It's but a small thing - to hold something while praying, but it works in Darkhan!  The Salesians there have found that the Rosary is a great attraction for the kids.  At one level, it probably works just like prayer beads in several of the great religions.  At another, even its name in Mongolia, Carnai, is attractive: the rose flower.
Fr James, with his Indian culture to drawn on, has explained the prayer as a kind of yoga, a relaxation of mind and body, a way to to treat a mind and body beset with difficulties, pain, anxiety, illness.  But he has been just as quick to explain its deeper meanings too.  In a country that was so devoid of religious explanation for a long time, a simple theology suffices.  A spiritual rose flower offered to God, through His Son Jesus, through the intercession of Mary.  But, along the lines of Don Bosco himself, Fr James has begun with short prayers; just little thoughts like 'Thank you, Jesus'.  The Hail Mary comes later.
The nice thing about it, he notes, is that once the children are taken with the Rosary, the parents are not far behind.
