ANISAKAN (Myanmar): 5 January 2008 -- Deacon Bosco Aung Zaw Win (Bosco A.Z), ordained priest on 29 December at Anisakan, Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar by Salesian Archbishop Charles Bo of Yangon replaced his father in the Salesian Congregation. "Although Leo left the Congregation due to the complicated political situation of Burma in 1960s, today his son, Bosco, has replaced him in the congregation", said Leo's younger brother, the Salesian provincial of Myanmar Fr. Joaquim Ye Maung, after the ordination.
Bosco was born at Mohla village situated in Sagain division of central Burma . The Mohla village has contributed not only many priests and religious to the church but also the Archbishop, Charles Bo, and the current Provincial, Joaquim Ye Maung, who hail from that village. Bosco is related to both Archbishop Bo and the Provincial. His father, Leo U San Aung, a former Salesian Brother, is the elder brother of Fr. Joaquim Ye Maung.
Bosco A.Z. joined the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1997 and made his first profession at Anisakan, Pyin Oo Lwin. In 2000, he went to India for his philosophical studies at Divyadaan Nasik. In 2004, he went to Salesian University Rome for his theological studies making his final profession on 23 May 2006 at the Sacred Heart Basilica, Rome.
Parents, family members, relatives, well-wishers joyfully received the new priest and sought his blessing at the end of the Eucharist. Fr Bosco Aung has returned briefly to the village to stay with his parents and relatives, and to celebrate Mass in the various villages in the vicinity of Mohla.
