KOR province expresses great hopes for communications future

SEOUL: 23rd March 2009 -- Welcoming Social Communications Delegates to Seoul, yesterday 22nd March, Fr Stefano Nam, Provincial of Korea Province, expressed keen interest in and strong hopes for the role of social communications in his own province and for the entire Salesian region. He was welcoming Fr Filiberto Gonzalez, the SC Councillor from Rome, Fr Andrew Wong, EAO Regional, who flew up from Australia where he is carrying out the Extraordinary Visitation, and delegates and team members from every province and circumscription in the region, along with two team members from Rome.
Fr Nam expressed his thoughts using a hardware-software metaphor, saying that we are, in general, well-equipped in communications terms but what we need to build now is the 'software' of Salesian values and people to make it work.  Fr Filiberto, in turn, placed two great tasks before delegates - that of realising the GC26 as document and spirit which, he indicated, has everything to do with social communications, and lies behind all planning for the period 2008-14, and the SC Department's own plans for the same period, and all this with a clear realisation that social communications is not a sector apart, but a dimension deep within the Salesian mission. He expressed great joy and confidence in seeing the array of experience and good will represented in the delegates present.
The meeting, which we will report on further towards its conclusion on 25th, aims to build on the sense of Region that EAO has developed in the few short years of its existence, in particular through the role that social communications plays at the heart of its mission.  In fact, Fr Wong indicated the value of such regional gatherings as this, in that they share and plan for the benefit of each province in the region; stronger provinces mean a stronger region, and stronger regions mean a stronger Congregation, as he put it.
