East Asia Region (EAR) Salesian Cooperators Congress draws to a close

MACAU: 28th May 2008 --  It has not been so easy, this time, to get news from Macau.  All the people involved in the 6th EAR Congress were so exceptionally busy that they had no time to write.  Perhaps it is an issue they can consider for future events of the kind.  But thanks to Dominic Chim, China Coordinator, we now have some information and some photos.
Cooperators came from all over the region.  There were also important guests. Given Fr Klement's recent election to the Missions post in the Congregation, he was unable to be present, but Fr Savio Hon was able to step in. The FMA General Councillor for the Salesian Family, Sr Maria de los Angeles Contreras was presnet, and ably supported in translation by Fr Hon. Fr Stjepan Bolkovac, the SDB Delegate under Fr Bregolin (Vicar of the Rector Major) had to over come some visa difficulties - but his was not the only minor problem along the way. Unfortunately Mrs Maria Lourdes Galza, Cooperator from Philippines North, due to give a talk on communion in lay families, was unable to deliver but instead found herself in a Macau hospital with a broken leg incurred in the journey to Macau! Dr Paul Chan accepted the challenge in her place.
All the materials for the Congress are available on Bosconet - it is enough to go to www.bosconet.aust.com and click below the black Congress logo on the right hand side.

On 25 May, the last day of the Congress, the Closing Mass was presided over by Bishop Jose Lai of Macau.  The Regional Council was re-elected as the following:
World Councillor:  Mr. Juan Carlos Escobar  (from Australia)
Regional Councillor (Administration):  Ms. Brenda Ramirez (from Philippines North)
Regional Councillor (Formation):  Dr. Philip Yu (from China).
The Congress was followed immediately by two days of formation for SDB and FMA Delegates. Agian this amterial is available on Bosconet.
