Salesian Brothers’ Week

HONG KONG: 16 November 2011 -- Salesian China Province organised Salesian Brothers’ Week on 6-13 November 2011. The whole province celebrated the vocation of the brothers and their contribution to the Salesian Society. Moreover, it allowed confreres to have a clearer and better understanding of the identity of “Religious Consecration”. Beginning from 6 November 2011, Salesian communities read selected chapters of the newly published Chinese book 《Salesian Brother》 at the evening spiritual reading sessions. This deepened the confreres’ understanding of the history, identity, vocational apostolate and formation of the Salesian Brothers.
On 11 November 2011 which is the designated Salesian Brothers’ Day, brothers started the day with a prayer and a song called "Salesian Brother". Professor P. K. Chan of Hong Kong Institute of Education and Fr. Francis K. K. Wong were invited to deliver talks on the topics of “Looking from the viewpoint of Developmental Psychology on how to live meaningfully in our old age” and “Looking from the viewpoint of the Religious on how to live happily our Consecrated life”. After the talks, brothers shared their personal experience and treasurable memories. Then, Fr. Simon Lam, Provincial of the China Province celebrated the holy mass. In his sermon, Fr. Simon narrated his relationship with the brothers. Moreover, he was grateful for their contribution to the communities. In future, he hoped that with the guidance of Our Lady, brothers and priests could proceed together towards Christ in their Salesian consecrated life. In the afternoon, the brothers visited and prayed at the Monastery of the Carmelite Sisters. After that, they enjoyed a light walk down Stanley Main Street.
A prayer meeting was organised at Salesian House of Studies in the evening, Brother Dominic Wong presented a short sharing and the ceremony ended with Benediction. What followed was a celebration dinner for the 80th Birthday of Bro. Joseph Dong, Bro. John Tchen and Fr. Sylvester Yuan. Fr. Simon presented appreciation certificates and gifts to the brothers so as to show gratitude to their contribution to Salesian Society. Brother Kung's harmonica performance and young clerics’ singing did much to liven up the atmosphere. Salesian Brothers’ Week ended in the celebration of the memorial day for Blessed Ardemite Zatti on 13 November 2011.
