EAO students keen to take up new Salesian Studies Masters course in Spiritual Theology

ROME: 17th June 2005 -- In line with the six year programme of the Rector Major and his Council 2002-8, the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome has included Salesian Studies as a major option for those taking the 'Licenza' in Spiritual Theology there.  The licenza is equivalent to a Masters Degree.  Two EAO students, one from Korea and one from Indonesia-East Timor Vice Province, are gearing up to take this option.
The news of the revised curriculum was announced this week by Fr Francis Cereda, General Councillor for Formation.  He points out that precisely at a time when the Congregation has committed itself so strongly to the primacy of God in the life of its members, this revised curriculum, with the opportunity to take up Salesian Studies, focuses interest in the spiritual life.  He notes the growing interest worldwide in Salesian history, spirituality, pedagogy, ministry, social communication.
Those who complete this degree course will be especially prepared for the task of teaching spiritual theology in theologates and at the various levels of formation.  But it will be just as useful for Rectors of communities, for those who wish to delve deeper into researching Salesian studies, and for those working with and accompanying the young in their spiritual journey.
The Faculty also intends to offer the chance for those who do not have a Bachelors to do a diploma course based on this curriculum.  There will also be annual and semester update opportunities on offer.

VOCABULARY
gearing up:  preparing themselves
