ORIGINALENGLISHCOMMENTCITATION
1a età [IT]Age group 1-29Different cultures distinguish age groupings in different ways. One would be unlikely to find, in English, terms like 'first', 'second' etc., as recorded here. In fact there are probably only three general groupings in English: young, middle-aged, elderly, and the boundaries are rather flexible for these. Amongst the 'young' category, English might distinguish babies, children, adolescents, young adults. Having said that, there is, in the UK, the University of the Third Age, so at least that term is recognised as 'older people no longer in full time work'.
2a età [IT]Age group 30-59
3a età [IT]Age group 60-74Cf. comment above.
4a età [IT]Age group 75 and over
abbandonato [IT]neglected, abandonedExpect to find in the phrase ''povero e abbandonato''.Note the term 'poor and abandoned' (or 'neglected') which DB used but which was also frequently in use to describe the situation of young people who might also be socially and religiously deprived. In general, however, it referred to suburbs such as Valdocco with large masses of ordinary people where the situation of young people was depressing, and depressed. In general then, the term indicates those lacking supportive context of family, school etc.Viganò ACG290: l'ammalato e il prigioniero, nel liberare e promuovere il giovane abbandonato e sviato.
abito talare [IT]clerical dress, habit 'deporre l'abito: to lay aside the cassock
abside [IT]sanctuary [archaic] A more common Italian term for this is ''presbiterio'', which often leads to the error of translating it in English as 'presbytery', which it could also be, but more normally this latter would be ''canonica'' in Italian.
accademia [IT]academy, (religious) entertainment programRefers to a semi-liturgical event, usually with music and talks, offered for particular feast days. Now much less used as a term in Salesian circles; more common in some formation communities. The term also has the meaning of an academic association for promotion of something religious, cultural.. as in the Salesian Marian AcademyViganò ACG330 L'Accademia Mariana Salesiana, animata dal compianto e benemerito don Domenico Bertetto...
accolitato [IT]ministry of acolyteIn the Ratio #474 the English refers to 'this ministry', allowing the sentence structure to refer to the earlier mention of 'ministry of Acolyte'. Note that the term nearly always appears in close association with 'lettorato', 'ministry of Reader'. The one who takes on this ministry is called an 'accolito' or 'Acolyte'.Ratio Ch 10: fare esperienza del ministero proprio del lettorato e dell'accolitato, del diaconato...
accompagnamento [IT]accompanimentThe term applies either to an individual or to a group and implies guidance, spiritual direction and a certain style, if carried out by Salesians. We could rightly speak of a 'pedagogy of accompaniment' at the core of the Salesian approach to the young. There are more specific forms of this accompaniment as in sacramental accompaniment in Confession.314Viganò ACG314: L'accompagnamento individuale personalizzato in una sapiente opera di discernimento e di direzione spirituale e l'accompagnamento di gruppo, condivisione di un graduale cammino di fede comunitario
accompagnamento vocazionale [IT]vocation accompanimentOne might also speak of guidance in vocational discernment.CG23:..accompagnamento vocazionale, essa ha saputo dar vita a nuove e svariate...

ACS [IT]ASCActs of the Superior Chapter - cf. below
ADMA [IT]ADMAcf. further on Associazione ADMA
ad multos annos [LA]ad multos annos [remains untranslated]Literally, 'May you see many years to come'. A refrain often sung on occasions of personal jubilees. It would be less likely to be recognised by younger Salesians outside Europe unless the habit of singing it has been maintained in early formation.
ad nutum [LA]ad nutum [remains untranslated]Literally meaning 'at the will of', it is a term used in Canon Law to refer to a person appointed for the time that the Superior remains in office, or until he changes his mindPV12: Descritta la figura e il ruolo del Segretario generale, l'articolo dispone che egli venga nominato dal Rettor Maggiore con il consenso del suo Consiglio e rimanga ad nutum.
adorazione [IT]adorationDesramaut includes the term amongst his 100 key words in Salesian spirituality. Salesians begin their understanding of the term from Francis de Sales who sees adoration as praise of God anywhere and everywhere; a daily thing, then. Adoration before the Bl. Sacrament is very much part of Salesian tradition, following Don Bosco, Don Rua ''et al''.ACG385, Guidelines of vocational frailty: l'esperienza della preghiera personale, l'esercizio della lectio divina, l'adorazione eucaristica,...
affidamento [IT]entrustmentDistinguish from 'consecration', especially, for example, when speaking of the prayer of (entrustment) to Mary Help of Christians.CG23: La nostra fiducia nell'affidamento a Maria
afflictis lentae celere gaudentibus horae [LA]time passes slowly for those who are sad and fast for those who are cheerfulJohn Bosco saw this inscription on the sundial at the seminary in Chieri when he first entered there, and determined to make his time pass quickly! [The sundial in question is no longer on the wall of the courtyard, though a second one is still visible on the adjacent wall]MO: Alzando lo sguardo sopra una meridiana lessi questo verso: Afflictis lentae, celeres gaudentibus horae.
Africa-MadagascarAfrica-MadagascarCurrent Salesian region
ANS [IT]ANSThe acronym ANS now stands for ''Agenzia iNfo Salesiana'' (Salesian Information Agency) - it comes from an earlier one, ''Agenzia Notizie Salesiane'' but was retained for sake of continuity with a slightly altered reference. In English, however, we still tend to speak of the Salesian News Agency, since 'Information Agency' is not common parlance.
agiatezza [IT]comfort, easecf. also imborghesimentoDBSpiritual Test: la veraagiatezza che nessuno invidierà e niuno verrà a rapirci
aggregati [IT]persons who have been aggregatedThe term was used by Don Bosco in reference to the co-founding of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. DB wrote in the preface to their first Constitutions asking them to pray for the 'Pia Società Salesiana alla quale siete aggregate'. In 1901 the Holy See decreed in ''Normae Secundum Quas'' that the female branches of the spiritual families founded within a charism be juridically separated from the male (the assumption maybe being that it was the male who always founded the female branch?). In the case of the FMA, Mary Mazzarello has been correctly termed as co-foundress. The 1901 decree looked like impinging directly on a delicate but important founding reality. Fortunately a further decree in 1917 re-established a juridical link by making the Rector Major the Apostolic Delegate for the FMA. The term has wider reference also to his various attempts to aggregate persons to his work and movement.Viganò ACG318: 'Soci esterni' aggregati alla Società di San Francesco di Sales, che avrebbe voluto inserire nelle Costituzioni
Albera PaoloPaul AlberaPaul Albera was the second successor of Don Bosco, a fact predicted by the Saint of Valdocco himself. Elected Rector Major at the death of Fr Michael Rua (1910) he dedicated himself particularly to the spiritual formation of the members of the Salesian Society, spelling out directives for interior life. This care was also mirrored in the social field in his wish that educational work be pursued beyond the schools and colleges by more stringent and consequent bonds. He brought together Congresses of Past Pupils and Cooperators with precise aims: to forge fraternal bonds which would augment the fruits of the education received and which would facilitate mutual assistance; to diffuse the Christian spirit throughout family, society and especially amongst young people; to promote and put in place, eventually, private and public initiatives aimed at supporting the many works of assistance, religious and social outlook that have come into existence in the name of Don Bosco. He carried this through most effectively amidst the difficulties of the first World War when it was necessary to organize huge works of charity and assistance in different nations at war
allegria [IT]cheerfulnesspart of DB's trio: ''allegria, studio-lavoro, pietà'' (cheerfulness, work-study, piety). Frequently employed by Don Bosco with the sense of being a virtue, hence his including it in recommendations to Dominic Savio who asked what he had to do to become a saint. Also C. 17 'Let's serve the Lord in cheerfulness.' cf. also sta allegro.CG20-1: Allegria era il clima in cui il Santo giovanetto cresceva coi coetanei nella fede vissuta, e sua delizia
allegria, studio, pietà [IT]cheerfulness, study, piety (also devotion)A classic DB item of advice to the boys at the Oratory. Cf.
ambienti popolari [IT]ordinary poor peopleThe people who live in an ordinary set of circumstances and because of their economic, social and political status are without privileges, pre-eminence, and represent the common people. Cf also ceti popolariViganò ACG324: Inoltre, parlando della promozione umana, le Costituzioni ci ricordano che lavoriamo in ambienti popolari
ambienti salesiani [IT]Salesian settingsChavez ACG379: in Cristo l'amico comune e l'unico Salvatore, i giovani degli ambienti salesiani
ambito [IT]area,This term is included because it is used by the Salesian Sisters in a particular way, to indicate what the SDBs call a 'settore' or sector. The Sisters refer to these areas of the Salesian mission as an 'ambito', e.g. Youth Ministry,('Pastorale Giovanile'), Social Communication, etc.
Amici di Don Bosco [IT]Friends of Don BoscoThe common denominator in any so-called Friend of DB: sympathy for DB, his mission and spirit and a willingness to work for the good of young people according to the Salesian mission, even if just as benefactors. It raises the whole question of the broader Salesian MovementCG24: Si riconosce che gli amici di don Bosco si inseriscono in un movimento..
amicizia [IT]friendshipThe term is one of the 100 words of Salesian spirituality selected by Desramaut. Salesian understanding of friendship is normally quite positive, drawing from Francis de Sales but also DB's friendship experiences (e.g. Jonah, his Jewish friend, Comollo, in MO). DB was not afraid to speak of friendship between Salesians and their pupils. It is also true to say that there was a long period of negative associations of friendship in Salesian tradition from Don Rua until Fr Viganò, when once again the term receives a positive approach.MO: Attesa l'amicizia, la confidenza illimitata che passava tra me e il Comollo, eravamo soliti parlare di quanto..
(Le) Amicizie [IT]Friendship AssociationsThe Amicizie of the late 18th and 19th centuries were secret societies generally dedicated to the defence of the Catholic faith and the institutional Church, at first chiefly through the spreading of good books. They were founded by Jesuits. They had a less secret manifestation at the time of Don Bosco in at least two groups, the ''Amicizia cattolica'' and the ''Amicizia sacerdotale''. The pastoral and doctrinal concerns of the latter were to be found expressed through the activities of the Congrgeation of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary in their work of renewal of moral theology in Piedmont and the founding of the Pastoral Institute in Turin
amministrazione dei beni temporali [IT]administration of temporal goodsTerm which deals with the structural aspect within Salesian communities cf C. 108 and the corresponding regulations. The Salesian Society has the ability to acquire, possess, administer and alienate temporal goods (Congregation, province, house level). Cf also povertà. economia. Temporal goods are regarded as means through which to achieve the apostolic aims of the Congregation.PV: Questa dizione può essere applicata all'amministrazione dei beni temporali non tanto come a un'area operativa della missione salesiana, quanto piuttosto come ad una dimensione
ammissioni [IT]admissionsThe term is used in reference to entry into the Congregation, for renewal of vows, for perpetual vows or for admission to stages towards the priesthood. It is a process as well as a juridical decision, involving more than one person or group. Admissions to vows, ministries and Orders implies the free decision of the one applying, the community which helps discern and the Rector and his Council (and Provincial and Council) who recommend or approve the admission.
ammortamenti [IT]amortizationsAccounting terminology
amore [IT]loveA term with an extensive set of meanings, connotations. Desramaut includes it among his 100 words of Salesian spirituality (he could do no other!) understood from its mystical 'love of the soul for God' aspect. Clearly love of God has primacy in the spirituality of Francis de Sales. Likewise for DB. There is also, in the latter, an element of the 'fear of God' to be noted: a God who is just.RATIO Ch 2: equilibrio emozionale, capacità di scelte libere, apertura agli altri, capacità di vero amore
amorevolezza [IT]lovingkindness [loving-kindness]A key Salesian term referring to the kind of love shown in the context of the Preventive System; part of the threefold ''reason, religion and loving-kindness''. At one time written as two words, it now tends to be hyphenated as loving-kindness but possibly could also be written as one word without the hyphen, at least among SalesiansDbMagone: 1 Accogliete con amorevolezza ogni sorta di penitenti, ma specialmente i giovanetti.
Anagrafe [IT]Family, Population RegisterCensus Register from 1847-69. Records the names of boarders accepted at Valdocco during each solar year. There was in fact an older list called Repertorio domestico (House List), a somewhat rough handwritten list of names from 1847-53. The term is in general use in Italian - the specific meaning here is simply one application of it.Chavez: ...registrati in nessuna anagrafe: non hanno nome, casa, patria, genitori.
angeli (custodi) [IT](Guardian) AngelsWhy include angels here? Desramaut asks this question in selecting the term for his 100 words of Salesian spirituality. He finds that DB from early days of his ministry, invoked and used the Church's understanding of the Guardian Angels. Devotion to the Guardian Angels was the title of one of his very first written works. Rua and Albera continued mention of the devotion. Then silence, for the most part. Desramaut hopes for a 'return of the angels' in Catholic spirituality.Viganò ACG301: all'altare, e i nostri angeli custodi l'hanno scritto a caratteri d'oro, per ricordarcelo spesso
anima [IT][LA]soulThe term is among Desramaut's 100 words of Salesian spirituality especially for its significance in the ''da mihi animas''. When we use the term today we reject any kind of dualism between body and soul and think rather of the whole person.DBscritti: un'anima sola, per promuovere la maggior gloria di Dio, secondo le nostre Costituzioni
animatore [IT]leader, animatorThere are instances where the term may be glossed simply as ''group leader'', especially if ''animator'' is less likely to be understood outside of a Salesian context. Cf.animazione belowPGmanCapitolo 1: L'animatore salesiano nel gruppo giovanile.Una proposta salesiana.
animatore spirituale [IT]Spiritual AnimatorThe term is used of the priest who is responsible for an ADMA group (MHC Association). It would normally be capitalised in English.CG20-2: b) Nella comunità formatrice la direzione spirituale comunitaria - compito del Direttore, animatore spirituale
animazione [IT]animationCodified in Salesian texts since Vat II. Animation is a quality, a service, a style, something which is a capacity of individual Salesians (capacità dell'animazione), of leadership, something to be exercised in the community, e.g. the ''animazione della comunità'' (animation of the community), or the ''animazione del CEP'' (animation of the Educative and Pastoral Community). A style of leadership. We speak of something also more structured as in the ''servizio di animazione''(service of animation) or even ''organismi di animazione'' (animation structures, animation bodies such as commissions)RATIO Ch 08: domestici, accetta tutti incondizionatamente e dà il suo contributo per l'animazione.
animazione pastorale [IT]pastoral animation (leadership)Nearly always in reference to youth leadership, that is, leadership of youth or by youth.PGmanCh3: coinvolgere i Salesiani anzitutto in compiti di animazione pastorale,
animazione vocazionale [IT]vocation ministryThe other possibility is 'vocation/al animation', but the term 'animation' has a somewhat restricted in-house Salesian connotation. Diocesan bodies involved in vocation ministry tend not to use the term 'animation', at least in English. In fact the Italian reference to vocation promotion in the Working document for GC26 (and subsequently in the main document) speaks rather of 'convocare' (call) and 'proposta'(proposal), despite the single reference in the quoted section here to 'reclutamento dei candidati...'StrumentolavoroGC26: dall'animazione vocazionale intesa come prassi di reclutamento dei candidati affidata ad un incaricato, alla creazione di una cultura vocazionale in cui ogni confratello, ogni comunità salesiana e ogni comunità educativa pastorale sono coinvolti nell'impegno vocazionale;
annali [IT]annalsFor Salesians, the first thing that comes to mind are the ''Annals of the Society'' written by the Congregation's second great historian, Fr Eugene Ceria. 4 volumes. Italian. An abridged version of the Annals has been published by Hyderabad province, translated by Fr John Lens.Vecchi ACG362: "Frattanto, raccontano gli Annali, gli atti e le parole di Don Bosco sulle Missioni avevano gettato un fermento nuovo
annuario [IT]year bookIn fact ''annuari'' existed in the Salesian Society from 1870, and contained an ''elenco generale''. At some stage this became simply the Elenco. It was known as The Elenco until 2002, then subsequently as 'annuario'.
apostolato [IT]apostolateAt one point the term 'apostolate' appeared to be a likely gloss for ''pastorale'' as in ''pastorale giovanile'' (Youth Apostolate), but as the definition from SGC indicates, they are not the same. Hence 'Youth Pastoral Ministry' came into being as a gloss for the specific nature of Salesian ministry for the young. While this longer term is still used (and often shortened, unfortunately to 'Youth Pastoral as a noun, which is less acceptable in English), it is also often shortened to Youth Ministry'. 'Apostolate' has a wider meaning, since 'apostolic' means to work for the growth of the Church. We also speak of our ''impegno apostolico'' (apostolic commitment), something which arises from and is inspired by pastoral charity. Desramaut includes it among his 100 key words of Salesian spirituality, but devotes most of his discussion to its newer significance in terms of new evangelization.RATIO Ch6: ..buona esperienza vissuta di vita cristiana e di apostolato;
Apostole della Sacra Famiglia ASFApostles of the Holy FamilyFounded in 1889 in Messina by Card. Guarino. Members of the Salesian Family
(senso di) appartenenza alla Chiesa [IT](sense of) belonging to the ChurchOther than its more general reference to the place the Salesians have in the Church, the 'sense of belonging to the Church or 'ecclesial belonging' is one of the main aims of Salesian education to faith of the young.
Archivio Salesiano Centrale ASC [IT[Salesian Central ArchivesThe Elementi Giuridici provide a number of articles describing the importance of conserving the heritage of the Congregation by way of archives, at local (House) or Province level or Central World level. At the level of central administration there are the Salesian Central Archives. This follows the requirements of Canon Law. Official archives are the subject of various regulations and it is recommended that the Congregation and the Provinces have their own regulations as to the who, when, how of the archives.
artigiani [IT]working boysBoys learning a trade in one of the workshops in DB's time, though the term has more general reference as well.DBBesucco: Gli artigiani devono aver compiuto i 12 anni e non oltrepassare i 18; essere orfani di padre e di madre;
ASCSalesian Cooperators AssociationCf.Cooperatore Salesiano. For the other use of this acronym see above Archivio Salesiano Centrale. The current official term for the Salesian Cooperators Association in Italian is ''Associazione Salesiani Cooperatori''. At one time the word ''pia'' (pious) was included, believing this was DB's term - it was, but only to distinguish it from certain Masonic sects and usually only ''viva voce''.
ascesi [IT]asceticismThe English gloss has an unfamiliar ring about it - part of the problem of contemporary spirituality, undoubtedly! But the most frequent problem in linguistic terms is the occasional habit of transliterating the Italian to produce ''ascesis'', the Greek term. This is quite unfamiliar! Therefore, 'asceticism' is the preferred gloss. Part of the problem of the English words 'ascetic', 'asceticism', is that they conjure up images of Mahatma Gandhi or the like (or certain holy pictures of Don Rua?). It would be worth reading what Desramaut has to say about this term in Salesian and Christian spirituality - he counts it among the 100 important terms.PV8: Don Bosco usava i mezzi dell'ascesi cristiana,
ascritto/i [IT]novice(s) [literally'someone numbered amongst us']Don Bosco's first descriptions of the Salesian Society did not envisage a traditional novitiate, so he did not speak of ''novizi'' but rather of ''ascritti''Dbmem: Gli aspiranti provati e conosciuti come sopra si possono con facilità ricevere fra gli ascritti.
Asia Est-Oceania [IT]East Asia-OceaniaCurrent Salesian Region. Essentially the region is the old Australia-Asia region minus South Asia, but in 2008 at GC26 Myanmar (MYM) was added in from the South Asia Region.
Asia Sud [IT]South AsiaCurrent Salesian Region consisting of the Indian Subcontinent (not including Pakistan) with Sri Lanka
Asociación Damas Salesianas [ES]Asociación Damas Salesianas [that is, untranslated]In many cases it remains untranslated. Some in the English world refer to them as 'Salesian Women', especially in the US. Association of Catholic lay women founded in 1948 in Caracas, Venezuela. A Private Association of the Faithful in ecclesiastical terms. Often referred to by the shorter title (capitalised) DAMAS, not an acronym but a shortened version. Has official membership of the Salesian Family. The Salesian assistant to the DAMAS is called the 'Spiritual Director'.
aspirantato [IT]aspirantate, juniorateThis word no longer appears in the Salesian Ratio but it is to be found in R. 17. DB in his own time made reference to 'Apostolic Schools' (Meeting of Sup Chapter June 5 1884), a model which he had heard of in France and which was a kind of junior seminary to prepare very young candidates for novitiate or seminary entrance. The fact that the term does not appear in the Ratio might suggest it is on the way out. In actual fact, especially in regions where vocations are plentiful, the aspirantate has made a comeback! The term 'seminarian' as used by Salesians in the Philippines, often refers to an aspirant, but calling the aspirantate a 'seminary' only leads to confusion with the more common use of the latter term.SDB-Regolamenti-i: 17 L'aspirantato - un centro di orientamento vocazionale salesiano.
assegno [IT]cheque [check (US)Accounting terminology
assistente [IT]assistantBut cf.also assistenza to understand the broader concept. The Salesian 'assistant' does supervisory duties and contributes to the creation of a Salesian presence. The reality is that the English term has a particular Salesian meaning and this always needs explanation, e.g. in a school setting.DBCircolari: l'Assistente osservino eziandio che cosa si legga in Chiesa o in ricreazione, in iscuola
assistente centraleCentral AssistantTerm used in reference to the person who is the central Ecclesiastical Assistant for the VDB
assistente ecclesiastico [IT]Ecclesiastical AssistantA canonical term for the Salesian priest who is officially responsible for the VDB or the CDB. The ecclesiastical assistant may also be called the central assistant. In all likelihood these terms would be capitalised in English.
assistenza [IT]assistanceCodified in Salesian terminology since DB. Key element of presence as part of Preventive System of DB.Dbartgen: 2. Nell'assistenza poche parole e molti fatti, e dare agio agli allievi di esprimere i loro pensieri.
associati [IT]associatesA term used by DB as a first reference to what finally became ''cooperatori'', Cooperators. ''associati'' is to be seen in conjunction with congregati (SDBs)DBCircolari..e nuovi associati, si sforzino di accrescere i meriti delle loro opere buone.
Associazione degli Exallievi di Don Bosco [IT]Association of Past Pupils of Don BoscoThe full official title. Cf. Exallievo
Associazione Cultori della Storia [IT]Association for those who cultivate Salesian historyAn institute for promoting Salesian history by supporting research, updating and collaboration between members of the Salesian Family.
Associazione Devoti Maria Ausiliatrice ADMA [IT]Mary Help of Christians AssociationIn most places where they exist in the English-speaking world they are simply referred to as members of the MHC Association or even 'ADMA' members. Founded by Don Bosco. Statutes approved 18th April 1869. Some 40,000 members these days. The 'Primary Association' (this is the term they use) is in Turin. The leader is called The President and the Salesian appointed to work with them is called the Spiritual Animator.
Associazione salesiana [IT]Salesian AssociationDB's authoritative and earliest term for what eventually was to be called Salesian Cooperators.
associazionismo [IT]group-mindedness, meeting in groupsA very difficult term to translate adequately in English. Implies something volitional on part of a participant in a groupPGmanCapitolo 1: ..diverse forme dell'associazionismo, del volontariato e della cooperazione

austraLasia [EN]austraLasiaAn e-newsletter founded in response to the need to link Salesian provinces in the then Asia-Australia (now the East Asia-Oceania) region in November 1997. therefore has already completed its 10th birthday. In fact the phenomenon of e-letters of this kind in the English-speaking Salesian world is quite noticeable: Boscolink (US), Rualink (UK), BIS India amongst some of these.
Auxilium Cristianorum [LA]Help of ChristiansThe Latin is often translated in reduced form to ''Ausiliatrice'' or ''Maria SS. Ausiliatrice'' in Don Bosco's Italian. The English 'Help of Christians' does not translate the Italian ''Ausiliatrice'' but the Latin form - or would it be better to say that the Italian ''Ausiliatrice'' does not translate the Latin ''Auxilium Christianorum''? This is worth noting for more than one reason - it must be difficult for Salesians in some non-Christian (and English-speaking) contexts to talk of MHC! The Italian term would not have had that difficulty when the first Salesians were undoubtedly promoting it in their early missions. We can understand, then why some today shorten the term in English to 'Mary Help'. Even if that does not work so well linguistically. It would be more accurate, in terms of English, to render it as 'Mary the/our Helper'. From 1848 DB was writing the title on notes, on his desk. Before 1862 there is no systematic use or understanding of the title on his part. After 1862 (Spoleto) it became his definitive Marian title.Viganò ACG390: Sappiamo che il titolo 'Auxilium Christianorum' riporta a tempi difficili di prove, di pubblici pericoli, di gravi...

azione [IT]action, activityThe term indicates a concept which Desramaut claims is central to Salesian spirituality - stemming from the dream at 9 years of age: '''Ecco il tuo campo, ecco dove devi lavorare. Renditi umile, forte e robusto'''. Think in terms of praxis, activity, doing, all with an apostolic intent. The Salesian contemporary practical theology of action is possibly best summed up in the Cooperators Rule of Apostolic Life. Cf. also ecstasy of actionDBscritti: ogni azione fatta con voto ha doppio merito; uno 'il merito dell'opera buona, l'altro 'il..
azione cattolica [IT]Catholic ActionThe term comes in well after Don Bosco but as E. Ceria notes, what else were the Cooperators if not 'lay people, canonically associated (with the Salesians) to spread, and keep alive, dependent on ecclesiastical authority, Christian life in family and society? The beatification of Andrew Marvelli by JP II in 2004, August, adds to this notion that of the Past Pupil. The beatifications on that day were all of members of Catholic Action of that era.CG20-1: ...nei centri giovanili, nei pensionati, nei convitti, nei movimenti apostolici (JOC, Azione Cattolica, ecc.).
azione educativa [IT]educational activity, actionIn the discussion of the difference between education and evangelisation, educational action can be distinguished from evangelising action; the former belongs to the area of culture, human values, the latter refers to the transmission and cultivation of the Christian faith.Vecchi ACG376: ..professionalità di "azione educativa e pastorale"
