Hat Yai, Thailand, 26 March 2024 -- Thanks to the Mother Superior of the Salesian Sisters’ community who operates Thidanukhro Girls’ School in Hat Yai, southern Thailand, a special reflection day was held on Saturday 23 March for their Burmese migrant workers. The Principal of Saeng Thong Salesian Boys’ School, Bro. Thanad Anan generously offered their chapel for the occasion.

A visiting Salesian priest from Australia, Fr Will Matthews, who grew up in Burma, led the reflection day with catechism, Q&A, Reconciliation and a Eucharist. It was an enjoyable day for all participants both spiritually and physically. At the end of the day, the workers thanked the Sisters for their spiritual and material support, and their genuine maternal care. They also showed appreciation to Fr Will for his time and effort.

It was a collaborative effort by the FMAs and the SDBs in Thailand to support Burmese migrant workers under their care.

There are many Burmese youth workers in Thailand trying their best for a better life as well as to support their families back home. Some workers are doing better than the others as many continue to face challenges in the diaspora. Due to unsettling political situations in Burma, many more youth are desperately leaving and running away from the country.

The migrant youth workers continue to ask for prayers and support for peace and democracy in their motherland.
