“He emptied himself” (Philippians 2:7)

By THA SC

Bangkok, Thailand, 15 August 2022 -- On Saturday, 13 August 2022 at "St. John Bosco" Church in Bangkok, the bishop of the Diocese of Surat Thani, Bishop Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, SDB, ordained Salesian deacon Paul Warayut Charoenphoom to the priesthood. Bishop Silvio Siripong Charatsri, Bishop of Chanthaburi and Fr John Bosco Dheparat Pitisant, the Provincial of Thailand, concelebrated together with many other Salesian confreres, including other diocesan clergy. The ceremony was attended by members of the Salesian Family, relatives of the ordinand, teachers and students from Salesian institutions, and parishioners.

At the end of Mass, Fr Warayut expressed his heartfelt 'gratitude' to Bishop Joseph Prathan who presided over the Mass, to the concelebrating Bishop Silvio Charatsri, to Fr John Bosco Dheparat Pitisant, Provincial, to Fr Manachai Tharachai, Rector of the Salesian Community - Don Bosco Bangkok, to the teachers and staff of Don Bosco Bangkok and also to everyone who prepared and came to this celebration. The celebration concluded with a fraternal agape, with music and dance presentations, courtesy of the students and teachers of Don Bosco Bangkok Technological College.

Fr. Warayut is the first Salesian who came from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Khlung, Chanthaburi Province. He celebrated his first Mass on Sunday 14 August 2022 at St. John Bosco Church, Bangkok.

Fr. Paul Warayut has chosen the motto for his ordination: "He emptied Himself" [Phil 2,7], in Greek - Kenosis. This is the same motto that he and his friends chose for their ordination to diaconate. This passage summarizes the life of Jesus, from his birth until his death on the cross. This passage has a profound meaning that drives one to use it as a force to imitate the sacrifice, the humility, and the attitude of service.

Let us thank God for the blessing of the priestly vocation bestowed on Fr. Warayut, and let us pray that he will be a good and faithful priest forever.

       Fr. Paul Warayut Charoenphoom

Date of birth: 31 JULY 1989, Khlung, Chanthaburi, Thailand. The first son of Peter Somnuek Charoenphoom and Maria Boonliang Kaetkaew (already passed away and also the younger brother)

Parish Church: Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Khlung, Chanthaburi

Motto of ordination: He emptied himself. (Phi 2:7)
