Fr. Andrew WONG, the mobile Salesian!
RMG, 26 June 2018 -- After the consultation for the Superior of INA Viceprovince the Rector Major with the consent of his council appointed on 26th June 2018 Fr Andrew WONG as the first Superior of Indonesia for the period of 6 years (2018-2024).
Fr Andrew WONG was born in Santa Ana (Manila - Philippines) on November 30, 1952 and joined the Salesian Novitiate 1971-1972 in Canlubang, made his first profession on May 1,1972 and the perpetual profession on March 23, 1978 in Paranaque-Manila. After his ordination in 1979 he dedicate most of his ministry in formation houses: Paranaque, Canlubang, Bacolod in the Philippines, Jakarta (Indonesia) and in Fatumaca (Timor Leste) - as formator, teacher, superior and also as novicemaster.
Fr. Andrew also earned his MA degree at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome in Youth Ministry and Catechetics and speaks quite few languages (English, Italian, Filipino - Tagalog, Tetum and Bahasa Indonesia). He participated in the General Chapters 25, 26 and 27.
After the erection of the new ITM Viceprovince of St. Callistus Caravario Fr. Andrew was appointed by the Rector Major as the first Superior (1998-2004) during the difficult transition times of Timor Leste Referendum (1999) and Independence in 2002.
Then he was again called by Fr. Chavez as the provincial of FIN - Manila province (2005) where he served until the GC26 (2008), when he was elected as the second EAO Regional Councilor (2008-2014). The newly elected Rector Major Fr. Angel called Fr. Andrew to formation ministry - 3 years term in Ratisbonne Theologate in Jerusalem (Middle East - MOR province) until last August 2017.
Last school year he was assigned by the Rector Major to Paranaque - Manila, the Blessed Steven Sandor international community of Specific formation for Salesian Brothers as Vice-rector and Catechist. And finally upon his renewed availability for the missio ad gentes (January 2018) the Rector Major assigned him recently to the newly established INA viceprovince. In this way Fr. Wong is moving for past 24 years for different tasks and offers an excellent example of missionary availability in the world-wide Congregation as one of the 'mobile Salesians'.
Within the EAO Region we congratulate the 60 Salesians and 12 novices of Indonesia to their first Provincial Superior and promise our prayers and entrust the foundation period to the intercession of St. Louis Versiglia, the Patron of INA Viceprovince.
In the same time we express our gratitude for the enthusiastic, faithful and total dedication to the animating service of the last Delegate of Indonesia, Fr. Lino Belo and his council (2015-2018).

Profession of Faith of the new Provincial will take place on Wednesday, 1 August, 2018, during the Eucharist celebration in Jakarta.

TRUNG ƯƠNG, 26.06.2018 – Sau khi tham khảo về vị Bề trên cho Á tỉnh Indonesia, cha Bề Trên Cả với sự đồng thuận của Ban Tổng Cố Vấn, đã bổ nhiệm cha An-rê Wong làm Bề Trên của Á tỉnh Indonesia trong nhiệm kỳ 6 năm (2018-2024) vào ngày 26.06.2018.
Cha An-rê Wong sinh tại Santa Ana (Manila – Phi Luật Tân) vào ngày 30.11.1952. Ngài gia nhập Tập viện Sa-lê-diêng năm 1971-1972 tại Calubang, khấn lần đầu vào ngày 01.05.1972 và khấn trọn ngày 23.03.1978 tại Paranaque, Manila. Sau khi chịu chức linh mục vào năm 1979, ngài dành trọn thời gian làm việc tại các cộng đoàn đào luyện: Paranaque, Canlubang, Bacolod tại Phi Luật Tân, Jakarta (Indonesia) và tại Fatumaca (Đông Timor) trong vai trò một nhà đào luyện, giáo sư, Bề trên và Tập sư.
Cha An-rê Wong có bằng Thạc sĩ về Mục vụ Giới trẻ và Giáo lý tại Đại học Giáo hoàng Sa-lê-diêng (UPS) ở Rô-ma, Ngài nói được một số ngôn ngữ (Tiếng Anh, Ý, Tagalog, Tetun và Bahasa Indonesia). Ngài đã từng tham dự các Tổng Tu Nghị 25, 26 và 27.
Sau khi đã thiết lập Á tỉnh mới Đông Timor – Indonesia với Thánh hiệu Callistus Caravario, cha An-rê đã được cha Bề Trên Cả bổ nhiệm làm vị Bề trên đầu tiên (1998-2004) trong thời kỳ chuyển tiếp khó khăn nhất của Đông Timor là việc trưng câu dân ý (1999) và việc dành độc lập vào năm 2002.
Sau đó, cha Bề Trên Cả Pascual Chavez đã mời gọi ngài làm Giám tỉnh của Tỉnh dòng Bắc Phi Luật Tân (2005), nơi ngài đã phục vụ cho đến Tổng Tu Nghị 26 (2008). Lúc này, ngài được bầu chọn làm Bề Trên Vùng Đông Á – Châu Đại Dương (2008-2014). Cha tân Bề Trên Cả Angel đã mời gọi cha An-rê đảm nhận sứ vụ đào luyện: 3 năm làm việc tại Thần học viện Ratisbornne ở Giê-ru-sa-lem thuộc Tỉnh dòng MOR – Trung Đông cho đến tháng Tám 2017 năm vừa qua.
Niên học vừa qua, ngài được cha Bề Trên Cả gởi đến Paranaque – Manila, Cộng đoàn Steven Sandor, một cộng đoàn đào luyện chuyên biệt quốc tế dành cho các sư huynh Sa-lê-diêng trong vai trò Phó Giám đốc và Giám Linh. Rồi sau cùng với ước muốn truyền giáo Ad Gentes (tháng Giêng 2018), cha Bề Trên Cả lại bổ nhiệm ngài đến một Á Tỉnh mới được thành lập là Indonesia (INA). Với lần này, cha Wong lại tiếp tuc di chuyển trong suốt 24 năm qua để đảm nhận nhiều chức vụ khác nhau và để cho thấy gương sáng tuyệt vời của ngài trong việc truyền giáo của Hội dòng, như một “Sa-lê-diêng lưu động”.
Trong vùng Đông Á – Châu Đại Dương, chúng ta chúc mừng 60 anh em Sa-lê-diêng và 12 Tập sinh của Á tỉnh Indonesia đã có một vị Tân Bề Trên Á Tỉnh, đồng thời hứa tiếp tục cầu nguyện cho Á tỉnh này với lời chuyển cầu của Thánh Lui Versiglia, vị Quan thày của Á Tỉnh.
Đồng thời, chúng ta cũng bày tỏ lòng biết ơn vì sự phục vụ sinh động rất nhiệt thành cha Phụ tỉnh Indonesia vừa qua là cha Lino Belo cũng như với Ban cố vấn của ngài (2015-2018).
