Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre, Xaithany, Vientiane

By Cl. Nattawut Kitsawad, SDB

Xainthy Vientiane, Laos PDR, 31 January 2019 -- For the Solemnity of St John Bosco on Thursday 31 January 2019, His Eminence Cardinal Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun, the Apostolic Vicar of Vientiane, presided at the Mass of St John Bosco in the Salesian CommunityChapel at the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre. Some local priests, Salesian Sisters, parishioners, and Catholic teachers and students joined this celebration.

On this joyful celebration, Cardinal Louis-Marie Ling gave the morning talk to the students, and staff at the Centre. Fr Patrick Maccioni, the Centre Direector, gave an opening speech for Don Bosco’s day. In the morning, there were many activities such as a question-answer session about the life of Don Bosco, indoor games, dancing and singing by the students. In the afternoon, there were sports such as volleyball, a tug-of-war, and soccer between teachers and students from each department at the Centre. They were happy in the way Don Bosco used say “Do everything except sin.”

The Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre is an all-boys school in Vientiane managed by the Salesian Province of Thailand (THA-Province). It is a place where Salesians work for Laotians, especially poor students. This centre offers an academic curriculum as Vocational Training for out-of-school youth, and has four departments: 1) Electricity, 2) Welding, 3) Auto Mechanics, and 4) Motocycle Mechanics. Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre is the only Don Bosco Educational Centre in Laos.
