Hong Kong, China, 28 October 2023 -- In Rector Major’s letter, dated June 23, 2023, he has appointed Joseph Phuoc Nguyen, SDB, the Reginal of the EAO region, to make the Extraordinary Visitation, on his behalf, to the Salesian Province of China, in accord with the Regulations and the resolutions of the GC28.

During the Visitation, Fr Phuoc will meet with each confreres to have a time of fraternal sharing regarding the evangelical witness, community life, and the Salesian mission. At the same time, this Visit will include another essential service: The Consultation for the new Provincial of China as Fr. Joseph Ng is concluding his office next year.

His Visitation, aside from the levels of the Province and local communities, will also cover various works and presences under their care.

The planned Visitation was delayed to October 28 due to the visa issue of Fr. Phuoc. On the first day, he met with the provincial and his council to have an overall picture of the Province before he got into different local communities.

Fr. NGUYEN Thinh Phuoc Joseph, SDB, was born in Vietnam, made his first profession in 1974, and was ordained in 1995. In the same year, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in philosophy by the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, Berkeley, USA. In 1997, he received a master’s degree in philosophy from the same school. In 2002, After achieving a Ph.D. in Theology from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, USA, he returned to Vietnam and was assigned to the formation house in Dalat Studentate. From 2015 to 2020, he was the councilor for Formation of the Province. Fr. Phuoc also speaks English, Italian, and French, other than his mother tongue, Vietnamese.
