DBTI, Port Moresby, PNG, 5 October 2020 -- I’ve received four sacraments out of the seven sacraments. I have grown up in a prayerful Catholic family in Wevak East Sepik province. Life at home with my parents was different. I left home for the first time to do my grade 11 and 12 at Wawin National High School, Morobe province.

I joined DBTI in 2018. My studies have been challenging. I passed some, but failed in many. The 2020 DBTI Graduating students retreat at Emmaus Conference centre (2nd- 3rd October INS, MFM, MFW and AUT) has help me a lot to realize mistakes in life.

The first session, about care for our common home, reminded me to appreciate things and never take them for granted. God has created the land, sea, animals, plants and human beings and each one has a purpose. We need to give glory to our creator. I came to realize that we human beings have Dominion over creation. God gave us the authority and power to watch over the earth. Secondly, Stewardship as we are responsible to care for the creation and finally Kinship, where we are harmoniously related to all creation. Power comes with responsibilities and we depend on each other.

The second session on Life Relationships made me realize that nothing in life is as important as relationships. The four basic kinds of relationships dwelt on: Friendship, Infatuated, Love and Exploitation. Infatuation and Love need to be carefully understood and enable us to build on trust, honesty, faithfulness, respect, love, etc.

Exploitation is also a relationship that destroys many lives.

The third session was about Our journey in life. In Life we face many struggles and obstacles along the way. I realize that I passed a few but failed many. I have disciplinary problems, problems with my place of residence and coming to school, school fee problems but with the grace and help of God and my parents and sibling’s prayer has kept me steadfast and enabled me to maintain my studies.

Finally, the fourth session was about life experiences. At 22, I’ve experienced many things in life. I heard many people say that the earth is troubled (Graun em ples blo Hevi). Yet God has created earth and made it a beautiful place for us to live in. We need to care and be responsible and our earth will be a trouble-free place.

I believe that I can do better for myself and can influence the lives of others.

Special thanks to Fr Ambrose Pereia SDB, Fr Gilbert Pano SDB, Fr Alexander Garcia SDB Mr Jojo Sariban, Sr. Annie, Mr Terence Tuohik, Mrs Lucy Kibai, Mrs Dianne Lavi and Mr Francis Gemo.
