Tetere, Solomon Islands -- About 400 youths gathered at the Don Bosco Rural Training Centre, Tetere, from 27-29 August, 2021 for the annual Wantok Bosco Camp that had as its theme, ‘Don Bosco Youths; Holy, Formed and Sent for Service.’ This year was the 5th commemoration of the event and was held at the Tetere Campus for the first time.

During the program the youths had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on the Preventive System of Don Bosco with the three pillars; Reason, Religion and Loving-Kindness.

The program ranged from spiritual encounters with the Lord in Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharistic celebrations. Various talks and group sharing were also part of the camp. The combined planning team of SDBs and FMAs made it possible for the youths to find their ways to have a closer relationship with Jesus with the distinctive characteristics of the Salesian Charism.

Talks were conducted by Fr. Casper Charles sdb, Fr. Robinson Parappilly sdb, Lay people Mr. George and Salesian Cooperators Madams Camari Bainivalu, Bernadette Paranapua and Esther Rongokulia.

Participants were from Christ the King Salesian Parish in Tetere, students from DBRTC and DBTI Henderson, LVH and MMDC RTC Henderson, Saint Peter UTC Gizo, Good Shepherd Red Beach Parish. These groups are where the SDB and FMA are present and are engaged in pastoral ministry. Young people from Ruavatu parish were invited to join the program. The young people listened attentively to the talks, spent time in prayer, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, participated in the cultural activities and the lively and enjoyable games.

The program was organized by an active and hardworking team working with a heart passionate for the young. Cooperation and teamwork of the entire Salesian Family in the Solomon Islands was evident.

It has been a great accompaniment program for the youth in our Salesian Charism from our mission in Solomon Islands. The entire group looks forward to the Wantok Bosco camp 2022, the 6th edition.
