Clifton Hill Formation Community Melbourne, Australia, 2 March 2024 -- Confreres in our formation community in Clifton Hill have started a Salesianity course this year under the guidance of Father Peter Varengo SDB. The program is designed to deepen our understanding of the spirituality and mission foundation of St John Bosco, particularly in relation to different activities and commitments that will lead young people to God and help them discover their vocation in life.

Father Peter has initiated thought-provoking discussions surrounding Don Bosco's mission, posing introspective questions such as "Who do you say I am?" (Matt 16:15). This question encouraged us to reflect on our understanding and connection to Don Bosco and his pedagogy. He shared about the life of Don Bosco, a brief history of the origin, and how he was inspired by Saint Francis de Sales.

During our session, we engaged in sharing our first encounters with Don Bosco, recounting how we have come to know and admire his work.

Brother Sitagisilao Moeloa, SDB, spoke of his parish and the Come and See program, highlighting his experiences with Don Bosco and the impact he has had on his life. Brother Damien Taofinu'u shared an inspiring story about Don Bosco that he heard from his aunt, who is a member of the FMA Sisters (Sister Sialei Taofinu’u) while Brother Cirilo Boavida recounted a meaningful experience of playing soccer with young people, showcasing the importance of building connections and relationships with the youth through sports and other practical activities.

Brother Foua Tea Peato shared his inspiring story, revealing how his personal experiences have shaped him into the dedicated and passionate individual he is today. Through his journey, he has gained the strength and insight needed to discern his vocation as a Salesian, striving to embody the values and ideals of Don Bosco. His determination to become a positive role model for young people is evident in his commitment to living a purpose-driven life, dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact in the hearts of young people.

Having a solid and firm knowledge of Don Bosco’s pedagogy is essential to effectively serve the young and faithfully carry out our Salesian charism. The Salesianity course will take place every Friday afternoon.

Let us continue to pray and ask our Blessed Mother Mary to strengthen us and guide our hearts to learn more about Don Bosco so that we can serve the young with fidelity and compassion.
