Sanità, Santità and Scienza!

By Ms Kiko

Hon Kong, 7 May 2016 -- the next day after the feast day of St Dominic Savio who is the youngest Salesian saint, Salesian Vocation Office organized the annual vocation day for all the young boys of our Salesian schools. The aim of the annual vocation day is to celebrate the precious Salesian Vocation gift of all confreres that God has granted to the Church and to introduce the youth such a beautiful Salesian Vocation.

The main theme of this year is to learn to take the good example of St. Dominic Savio to practise chastity in our daily life. There were fourteen Salesians present among the youth in the vocation day sharing their vocational stories. The feast was inaugurated with some gymnastic actions.

According to the MC, the Salesians emphasis very much 3 S: Sanità, Santità and Scienza. Thus in order to keep chastity, good health is very essential to strengthen our good will. Afterwards, Aberdeen Technical School was invited to elaborate by means of an attractive drama how St. Dominic firmly resolved and rejected pornographic materials in his time. Our eyes are the door of our souls. The youth should be a good guard to control what kind of images entering the souls in order to get rid of the coming of the devil into the heart with the sinful images. Indeed St. Dominic Savio has taught us how to keep our eyes serverely.

After the drama, Br. Paul Li and Fr. Paul Leung shared their vocational stories. They appealed the youth to be always joyful and to have dreams. As a conclusion, Fr. Martin Yip, the Provincial Delegate of Vocation Animation reminded the youth to persevere their own values, not to be indifferent following the secular bad values blindly especially on those matters contrary to chastity.

After the activities, Cardinal Joseph Zen presided over thanksgiving mass to commemorate St. Dominic Savio on his feast day. He exhorted the youth that temperance and chastity are the essential elements to keep the purity of the souls. We can dedicate ourselves to God whether through marriage or consecrated vocations; life is indeed a kind of dedication and even a kind of investment. Cardinal Zen reminded the youth to learn St. Dominic to be a smart guy, invest properly, putting all capital, especially the most precious thing youthhood in God’s good hand. He is the best ‘capitalist’ and he will never disappoint us without any profit returns. We must also learn to be friend with Jesus and Our mother Mary, never sin and we will be blessed in the long course of our life.

Finally, the annual "Savio Cup" football tournament ended the vocation day with the champion given to Salesian English School.
