EAO Region, 12 October 2022 -- More than 100 Salesian Family members (mostly Salesian Brothers) from the 12 provinces of EAO region were able to participate in the canonization events in Rome. But what about our 12 provinces back home? Thanks to the diligent confreres on social media, we come to know some of the most important initiatives being taken each day. Let's be inspired and encouraged to make the best of this grace-filled time within Salesian history.
Thanks to the Rome-based ANS (Agenzia Notizie Salesiana) news agency team's diligent work and many translators we were able to prepare many interesting events, tools and occasions around the EAO region to make Brother Artemides Zatti:
* Brother Zatti Exhibition (Timor Leste: Oratory, Formation house, Parishes)
* Salesian Bulletin special 'Zatti edition' (China, Philippines, Thailand... and others in the making)
* Province-wide celebration being prepared in October (CIN - Hong Kong, October 22)
* Gathering and celebrations of Salesian Brothers (INA - Jakarta etc)
* Translating into local language many short videos - slides for social media (INA - Salesian Family)
* Watching as a community some of the YouTube programs on Brother Zatti (broadcast from Vatican, Rome, Argentina) and waiting for the sharing of many Salesian Brothers after their pilgrimage to Italy on this occasion.
We may be inspired on the post-canonization journey with the 5 key words of General Chapter 26 (8) that invites us to the commitment to return to Don Bosco, in order to 'start afresh from Brother Zatti' : love - study - imitate - pray - make known.
To love Brother Zatti
* In many Salesian schools one of the classrooms is dedicated to Br Artemides Zatti,
* some Don Bosco institutions Listen to the Salesian Brothers, how they were inspired by Brother Zatti in their vocational discernment
To study Brother Zatti
* We have only a few Zatti biographies (mainly pocket editions, like the Don Bosco Publication UK: Blessed Artemide Zatti). Probably the only slightly extensive English biography, translated into some EAO languages is 'Zatti! - A Biography' written by Fr Peter Lappin, SDB (USA, 1987). However, the 240 page Italian official 'Life' of Zatti is now being translated into English... may be finished by Christmas, let's see!
* Incoming EAO Salesian Brother Congress (2024, Indonesia) is also a good opportunity how to deepen together the spirituality and life background of our new Saint. Two years time to produce more EAO language materials about Zatti!
To imitate Brother Zatti
* For many young people, candidates and Salesians in initial formation the model of Brother Zatti is very attractive. For some Salesian Brothers Saint Zatti is their first motivation to follow Don Bosco.
* To follow Br Zatti's outreaching spirit (photos on the bicycle)
To pray to Brother Zatti
* Encourage by the personal experience of Pope Francis as Argentina Jesuit provincial, start to pray for Salesian Brother vocations
* Use often the different prayers to Brother Zatti distributed for the canonization - Vocations, Sick, Salesian Brothers, Liturgical memorial
To make Brother Zatti known (#zatti)
* To make known, our not-so-well known Saint in the universal Church needs our creative effort and passion to spread 'the news'. In most of the EAO provinces it means hard-work by the translators to put available materials into the local languages (movie, biographies, prayers, holy pictures, short video clips)
* Follow the invitation of the Rector Major to the 'extraordinary commitment to promote Salesian Brother vocation, especially sharing the life story, spirituality of Brother Artemides Zatti!
