Komporo, Tetere, Solomon Islands, 29 June 2023 -- On Friday 16 June 2023, Bishop Peter Hou hou, Bishop of Auki, presided over the dedication and blessing of the magnificent Sacred Heart of Jesus Local Church. It marks a new chapter in the history of Christ the King parish and in the heart of the Komporo community.
Concelebrating with Bishop Peter was Christ the King Parish Priest, Fr. Robinson Parappilly SDB, Catholic Bishop Conference PNG/SI Assistant Secretary Fr. Mark Misiwasi, Fr. John Peter Varea and Fr. Peter Van SDB. The local Catholic faithful were joined by parishioners, neighbours, and friends in a sign of unity and togetherness. Honorable Members of Parliament for the Constituency and Provincial members also joined the celebrations.
The dedication and blessing commenced with a joyful procession, led by the Komporo community members dressed in traditional costumes. They were followed by the clergy, religious sisters, and the lay faithful. After the cutting of the ribbon Bp Peter blessed the church building. The Newly constructed monument of Sacred Heart of Jesus, the altar, baptismal font were also blessed.
In his homily, Bp Peter emphasized the profound significance of the Sacred Heart and Christ's boundless love and mercy. He encouraged the community to foster a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart, that their lives may be guided by His compassionate spirit.
Fr. Robinson expressed his gratitude to the parishioners for their unwavering support and tireless efforts in making the construction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church a reality. He thanked John Saki who reached out to help. He highlighted the significance of the new church building as a place of worship, community, and spiritual nourishment for generations to come. The community looks forward to the abundant blessings and spiritual growth through the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
