By Fr Robinson Parappilly, SDB

Kumgi, PNG, 19 March 2019 -- Don Bosco Simbu Technical College together with all Salesians, Sisters of St. Ann, Staff and students, celebrated the feast day of St. Joseph the patron of our Technical College on March 19th, 2019. The feast honours Joseph, husband to the Virgin Mary and earthly father to Jesus. St. Joseph is the patron saint of husbands, fathers, families, homes and workers. Joseph is also believed to protect pregnant women, travellers, immigrants and people buying or selling homes. St. Joseph is also recognised by the Church as the patron of the universal Church, of fathers, of carpenters and of social justice.

It was a meaningful celebration started with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Richard SVD, Pastoral Vicar of Kundiawa Dioceses and Fr. Robinson Parappilly, Fr. Edwin Genovia SDB and Fr. Clifford Morais were the concelebrants.

As a Catholic College we take St Joseph as an excellent role model for family values and personal integrity. St Joseph showed the importance of working hard in our everyday lives; in the way that he cared for his family, did his work as a carpenter and followed his Jewish religion. This Feast Day is encouraging us to focus on justice and fairness in our daily work, and to consider how we can be role models for others in how we treat people. During the Homily our celebrant Fr Richard SVD expressed his impressions of the value of work in everyday life, the respect, willingness and gratefulness of Joseph to the call on the Lord the Almighty. St. Joseph showed us how to live a simple, yet powerful life of respect and commitment to values.

During the Mass the Students Representative Council (SRC) of Don Bosco Simbu Technical College together with the captains and vice captains of different classes and Clubs and Sodalities with their animators pleadged their oath to serve the college with the best of their abilities and grow to be true servant leaders. Fr. Clifford Morais, Spiritual Moderator called the members from different clubs and sodalities for the oath taking ceremony. Fr. Robinson Parappilly, Rector and Principal of DBSTC accepted the clubs and sodalities for 2019.

After the Mass students and staffs with their colorful uniforms posed for few photo sections. It was followed by games, in which all new and old students played with joy in their hearts. Many selfies and phtos were taken and uploaded their cherished moments and social media was full of Bosconians cheerful smiles and happiness. The feast of Saint Joseph is a wonderful celebration for the whole college as all enjoyed and received the blessings from St. Joseph our Patron Saint.

May St. Joseph bless us all.
