Anisakan, Myanmar, 11 March 2019 -- During the EAO Salesian Historians Conference (Sampran, Thailand, February 2019) many important Salesian figures of the 20th century were introduced. Among them were many founders of Salesian presences in particular countries or co-founders of some Salesian Family groups in our Region.

Fr Fortunato Giacomin (1920-2000) belongs to a rare missionary category, without building many great works, but who contributed in a very significant way to anchoring the Salesian charism in Myanmar. As the only non-local Salesian during the long difficult years when we lost most of our works and properties (1965-2000) he become novice master, formator, confessor, teacher, social worker, assistant to the aspirants - but first of all, a living image of Don Bosco. The young generations of the Salesians found, in him, a clear role-model in their formation.

The Salesians of Myanmar are still gathering the written testimonies of all those who knew Fr Giacomin (both Catholics and non-Catholics around Anisakan or Mandalay) in order to complete the first Dossier for the Rector Major before June 2019. This might be the first official step in any eventual canonisation process.

Please, forward any sharing or information to Fr Joachim Ye Maung - Anisakan, Myanmar (bethenyye@gmail.com).

A short reading of the summary (Boscolink) of his profile is a good contribution to the 11th of this month - the way we pray for the missions and new missionary vocations!
