Covid19 inspires Tokyo Sunday school online

By our own correspondent

Chofu, Japan, 21 April 2020 -- There are millions of Facebook pages around the world, but actually not too many online visible Salesian Aspirantates. At the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year, two new senior aspirants - Naoki and Hoang - were welcomed to the Chofu Formation House community in Tokyo (Rector Fr Noboyuki Tamura). After a few years in the Yokkaichi Junior Aspirantate (Junior and Senior High school level) these two young men will attend the University in Tokyo while living in the Salesian formation house.

We congratulate the creativity of the young candidates and young confreres with the launching of their official Facebook pages (Salesio Aspirantate JP) just a few days ago. You may know the new first-year university Aspirants, Hoang and Naoki, established the creative Sunday Gospel story (starting with Thomas) as their contribution to the Sunday school. It's a good encouragement to other Salesian candidates to share with simplicity their daily life and apostolate.

Cl. Joji Arakawe shares in his first video: "We are sharing the video uploaded yesterday in the Facebook page of Chofu Salesio Sunday School. This is how we do the apostolate for the time being because of COVID-19. The video presents the story of the famous "Doubting Thomas" through pictures illustrating the story. Meeting the Risen Christ, Thomas was transformed into a person who believes in the resurrection. Maybe in our lives too, we experience a kind of transformation that can be depicted as our meeting with the Risen Christ! Be blessed!"

The Salesian Formation House in Chofu (Tokyo) Japan is the largest SDB community in the whole province with different stages of formation: from the senior aspirants, through the prenovitiate and novitiate stage (this year only prenovices) up to the postnovices and theology students. The Chofu setting comprises the Parish of St John Bosco, Oratory with large gym and soccer-field, Formation house and Cimatti Museum (with the tomb of Venerable Fr Vincent Cimatti).

We hope more Aspirants within the EAO region will get in touch online with other young people, to share their faith and vocation journey!
