By Fr Angel Yamanouchi, SDB

Tokyo, Japan, 28 September 2023 -- During this past summer vacation, specifically from August 28th to September 11th, our team, known as DBVG (Don Bosco Volunteer Group), comprised of 11 students and workers from Japan, had the privilege of volunteering in Tac Van, Camau, situated in the southern part of Vietnam. Our mission was centered around supporting the Vietnamese Salesian House, which has been dedicated to assisting underprivileged children and youth in the region. In Tac Van, Ca Mau, our primary tasks revolved around enhancing the learning environment for these less fortunate children. We undertook activities such as painting classrooms and ensuring the cleanliness of their sanitation facilities, thus contributing to their educational well-being. During our breaks, we engaged in sports activities with the local youth and fostered meaningful interactions with them. Moreover, our visit coincided with the commencement of the new school year, affording us numerous opportunities to engage with both the youth and children in unique ways. We introduced them to Japanese games and dances and even shared the art of Japanese cuisine preparation with them. Each day, as our activities and social gatherings drew to a close, we, along with the local community, came together to attend Mass and offer our prayers, expressing gratitude to God for the blessings of the day.

Two weeks may not seem like a long period of time, but for each of us, it was a great period of growth and a valuable experience that we will remember for all our lives.

Above all, we would like to thank God for allowing us to spend these two weeks without any injuries or illnesses during our first time volunteering in Vietnam. Lastly, we would like to thank God and sincerely thank all of our benefactors who live in Japan, the Vietnamese province, Provincial House, Ben Cat community, Tan Cang community, Tac Van, Ca Mau community, especially Fr Dat as our companion without our benefactor we would not be able to do.

Please continue to help and support us again.
