Chofu, Japan, 17 October 2023 – Our confrere, Salesian Priest Cavaliere Umberto (93 years old, 70 years as a Salesian, 62 years as a priest) of the Yokohama Community, was called to heaven with Don Bosco at 9:29 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those with him during his life, especially those who cared for him since he became ill.
We continue to pray for Father Cavaliere's eternal rest.

Father Cavaliere Umberto was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 7, 1930. He took the first vows on August 16, 1953, and then came to Japan (1953) as a Salesian Missionary.
After Priestly's Ordination on December 20, 1961, he worked in schools for about 30 years. Although he has a big voice and a large body, he has a warm heart and often talks with students on the playground. Parents and teachers trust him in School.
After retiring from his principalship, he worked in Parish. In the Parish, Father Cavaliere treated everyone with respect. During this period, he especially cared for immigrants who came to Japan from Latin America.
He was a good teacher and missionary when he served at the school and a good shepherd when he worked in the Parish.
Since 2019, he has continued to preach the gospel online while living in bed.
Indeed, he is always a Salesian and a missionary of evangelization everywhere.
