HERE IS A LITTLE GEM FOR YOU TO TRY!

Julian Fox

SUVA: 28th August -- A few days ago Peter Newbery (HK) sent around his local
readers a note to the effect that there is a web/net translation service
available.  Now there really is!  It's free and fast and, for one like
myself, an incredible timesaver.  These days I find myself needing to write
in French because our local Pacific region Religious are divided into both
Anglo and Francophone groups, and I have a role of communicating with both.
Other than hours with a dictionary and a reliance totally on Italian grammar
in the hope that it stands up, I occasionally pester a local Francophone for
help. (Francophones are nothing like telephones, by the way!).  Enter
http://babel.altavista.com/translate.dyn;$sessionid$FXUFNIQAAOJDLUPXYKHCFEQ
and voila!
Now, it does help to know the target language a little to make those final
changes.  I mean, 'Major Superiors' comes out as 'principal superiors' and,
as I discovered recently, 'Julian Fox' comes out as 'Renard Julien' - should
have woken up to that earlier - but boy, does it save some time.  And guess
what?  You can even get it to go into any web page and translate that too!
So maybe I can begin to answer an earlier criticism about Bosconet being
monolingual? :-).  Oh, it does well with just ordinary stuff of the kind
you'd put into a newspaper, so it suits me.  I tried it out on some more
glamorous English and well....you know that old joke about early translators
that changed 'the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak' into 'the whisky
is good but the meat's bloody awful'!
But - here's a demo: into Italian.  As you'll see, it's passable if you just
want to communicate and haven't got the know-how to do much better.  But
don't beleaguer the poor old Vicar General with your new-found Flemish or
Walloon skills (which is it Luc, I can't recall)...it doesn't have either!
And George, if you are reading this, then know that we readers out there do
have some compassion for your task!

QUI È UNA GEMMA PICCOLA AFFINCHÈ PROVI!
Volpe Julian (Oh dear!)

e veloce e, per uno come me, incredibile.
(Francophones è niente come
i telefoni, a proposito!). Entrare
http://babel.altavista.com/translate.dyn;$sessionid$FXUFNIQAAOJDLUPXYKHCFEQ
e voila!
fare quei cambiamenti finali. Significo, ' Major Superiors' esce come ' i
superiori importanti', e ho scoperto recentemente, 'Julian Fox' esce come
(oops!  Can't handle that), esso salv un certo tempo.
good but the meat is bloody awful'!
You'll have to go to the English here,

So - you see.  It will both get you out of trouble and get you into trouble!
Good for a laugh anyway.
