Church and Government demonstrate support for Salesian education of young in Samoa

APIA: 27 July 2005 --  Don Bosco Technical Centre in Samoa has a new multipurpose hall, something that has been planned for many years and especially over the past six years.  It was formally opened recently in the presence of the Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, the Salesian Provincial Fr Ian Murdoch and many members of the Salesian Family, local clergy, diplomatic personnel, educational authorities and of course staff, students and their families
In many ways it was a moment to recall and be thankful for the 25 years of Salesian work and presence in Samoa.  The Prime Minister, both in public address and private conversation, was full of praise for DBTC, its contribution to educating the young in Samoa, and its active participation in the life of the broader community.  But he also recognised "the overarching role of the Salesians in Samoa over the past twenty five years", as explained by the Provincial to members of the Province in his recent circular.
On the occasion of the Provincial's visit to Samoa, Archbishop Alapati Mata'eliga confirmed a gift of 3 acres of land near the Moamoa Theological College, formerly administered by the Salesians, for the purposes of establishing an initial formation community.
