Thousands joined Mary First Disciple eConference

SYDNEY: 01-06-10 -- Thousands from across Australia and from around the world joined in an eConference on "Mary First Disciple" hosted by the Australian Bishops Conference and the Broken Bay Institute, featuring Professor Frank Moloney SDB as key presenter. More than 300 sites were registered to take part in the webcast which took place in mid May. As well as Australian sites, a number from New Zealand, Fiji, France, Ghana, India, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Malta, Nigeria, Peru, The Philippines, Swaziland and the USA took part.
This was the third such eConference, and their popularity has been noted by the Bishops Conference and the Institute. Bishop David Walker, in who diocese the forum was hosted (so Broken Bay, about 50 kms north of Sydney, really, but most reader overseas relate more easily to 'Sydney'!) and a member of the Bishops Commission for Mission and Faith formation, said of the eConference popularity:
"I think it shows that people are hungry for really good quality adult faith formation and opportunities to come together as parish communities or workplace communities to reflect on the Gospel and to really allow the Gospel to have a living, active role in our daily lives".
Fr Moloney, of course, as well as being Salesian Provincial for the Australia-Pacific Province, is widely known in Australia and internationally as a Scripture scholar. He was not the only presenter.
There was one further draw-card for the event: registered participants went into a draw to win a trip to Rome for the canonisation of Mary McKillop in October.
The program has been archived on the Web and can be accessed through http://mary.vividas.com
