SALESIAN PAST PUPIL INSPIRED TO TAKE UP LAY MISSIONARY CALL

by J.Lee SDB

Port Pirie SA: 30 April - A past pupil of St. Mark's College is now the Information and Development Officer, based in Sydney, for PALMS, Australia's major lay missionary organization.  Kelly McConville was a PALMS volunteer  teaching at St. Joseph's school in Kiribati (Central Pacific) during 1996-1997. Invited to speak to students at her alma mater, Kelly referred to her salesian contacts and explained that PALMS formerly referred to Paulian Assocation for Lay Missionary Secretariate. However due to the multi-layered understanding of "missionary", the project is now called the PALMS Cross-Cultural Program, which matches communities in need of particular expertise with people willing to share their skills. Over 1500 people have been placed since 1961, in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America and the Pacific Islands including Samoa. Further information please contact e-mail:  Pauline@bigpond.com
