FIN Assembly paves way for Mission Animation Desks

MANILA: 1st October 2008 -- News just arrived from the Mission animation group in the Philippines North Province, indicates that an assembly of delegates from around the province has explored ways of following a directive from the Missions Councillor at General Council level, Fr Vaclav Klement, regarding the establishment of a missions animation desk in the province.  The news is timely, coming as it does on the first day of a month which the Church typically devotes to missionary animation through its Mission Sunday celebration.
The assembly was a testing of the waters to see what the strengths and weaknesses of the situation are for the Province in regard to a Mission Desk. It also informed representatives present of the annual Mission Symposium sponsored by the Mission Animation group. All Houses through their Rector were informed of the assembly though not all were able to send their representatives.
The following conclusions/resolutions resulted from the meeting:
    - Participants were given thorough information on the directive to create Mission Animation Desks
    - This preliminary meeting was well-received by spiritual moderators/catechists as a way of strengthening mission animation in their setting
    - The M28 newsletter (you can see past copies in SDL in the English collection) is to be reprinted and disseminated among students in every setting to promote awareness
    - The participants committed to organizing the Prayer Warriors Club as the most practical intervention for mission animation at the moment
    - Participants will commit to sending representatives to form a core group responsible for the planning of the November 8 Symposium
Not all was beer and skittles however!  Some apprehensions were expressed:
    - Planning for school activities has already been implemented. 2009 would be a better starting point
    - Rectors need to back the initiatives of the Mission Animation Group/Desk otherwise local representatives would hesitate to act
    - There would be budget concerns for implementing a local 'desk'.
There was a strong feeling expressed that combining the Mission Animation Desk with Vocation Ministry would be effective and help avoid duplicated efforts. The Mission Animation Group expressed its willingness to be available for activities at House level.

(Several animation items from the meeting will be placed in the mission section of SDL's English collection - when there is a moment to do so!
