Boys Town dream comes true

CHAOCHOU (Taiwan):  4th January 2009 -- The dream of two men, both deceased at a relatively young, both filled with passion for the welfare of poor and underprivileged youth, came to its full realisation in mid-December as Cardinal Shan of Taiwan, along with Archbishop Liu, the Salesian Provincial, Fr Lam, and many other people involved in the project blessed and opened the new multi-purpose wing at Taiwan's Salesian Boys Town in Chaochou, Pingtung Hsien.
The dream was at least five years in the making.  Construction stopped at one stage. Fr Francis Wong, the energetic director, had given his life to realising this project, seeking benefactors and the involvement of the Yao Jing Construction group.  He died from the sheer effort it took.
The wing bears the name 'Bo Wen', after its chief benefactor Mr Zheng Bo Wen, who had always intended to build an orphanage for poor youngsters.  He died in a car accident when he was barely 40 years of age. His brother and the director of a Japanese food company provided a substantial amount of financing for the completion of the project.
The blessing and opening ceremony lasted two hours.  It also involved the Boys Town band and many other performances from from Boys Town and other youth and parish activities.
In addition to the Cardinal, the Archbishop and the Provincial, representatives of the Construction group, the Food Company, Government officials, friends also from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, the Gao Xiong Diocese, witnessed the event.
