Wikipedia has something to say to GC26

SIHANOUKVILLE: 26th February 2008 -- Strange but true, at least obliquely.  Fr Al Rodas sdb, a Salesian Colombian missionary working in Cambodia has just successfully written a Wikipedia article on Don Bosco (in Spanish) which has won the coveted 'Featured Article' classification for that language. As Wikipedia explains:

"Featured articles are considered to be the best articles in Wikipedia, as determined by Wikipedia's editors. Before being listed here, articles are reviewed at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates for accuracy, neutrality, completeness, and style according to our featured article criteria.
At present, there are 1,914 featured articles, of a total of 2,253,633 articles on Wikipedia. Thus, about one in 1,170 articles is listed here. Articles that no longer meet the criteria can be proposed for improvement or removal at Wikipedia:Featured article review.A small bronze star (This star symbolizes the featured content on Wikipedia.) on the top right corner of an article's page indicates that the article is featured. Additionally, if the current article is featured in another language version, a star will appear next to the language page link, in the list on the left of the page".

The article is held at http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Bosco and is, of course in Spanish. The citation reads: " Juan Bosco es un artículo destacado, lo que significa que una versión suya ha sido identificada como uno de los mejores artículos que la comunidad de Wikipedia en español ha producido. Si encuentras alguna forma para mejorarlo, eres bienvenido a contribuir", which means: "John Bosco is a Feature Article, it means that a version of it has been identified as one of the best articles of the community of Wikipedia in Spanish. If you find any way to improve it, you are welcome with your contributions".  It has been featured as a model for writing biographies.

Wikipedia is now judged to be the largest commons (freely available and open to contribution by all) collection in the history of the planet, surpassing by an order of magnitude the previously known largest collection, the Yong-Le Encyclopedia commissioned by the Emperor of China in 1403, which ran to 23,000 volumes.  Only one copy was ever made of the Yong-Le.

Congratulations Al!
