Called, Gifted, Sent - the RCIA from the hands of an expert

Melbourne: 25 October 2010 -- Anyone who has read their GC26 document will have noted Guideline 6 on evangelisation and education, and especially the paragraph urging the community to "see to the renewal of catechesis and be open to new forms of accompaniment of children, older youth and adults in the process of Christian Initiation". And anyone who was actually at the Chapter will recall the major contribution made by Fr Elilo Capra from the Australia-Pacific Province to this issue, as well as his role in the commission which helped draft the overall document. No surprise, then, that his recently published work Called, Gifted, Sent, on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), published by John Garratt Publishing, is receiving rave reviews: "fills an important niche in sacramental theology", "sufficiently user-friendly for parishioners...meaty enough for any theology students...", "a brilliant and invaluable resource for the Church today", "a clear and concise explanation of the symbols, prayers and rituals surrounding the Triduum and initiation sacraments".
Dr Elio Capra's name is synonymous with the RCIA in Australia, so valuable has been his contribution over many years right across the country, as he has worked with teachers, students, parish groups, dioceses, and catechumens. Thus as could be expected the text is down to earth but solid, intended especially for the very people who feel called to take this particular journey of faith towards full communion with the Catholic Church. The text is accompanied by a Journal to help the reader and 'traveller' on this journey to reflect on the process, from the early steps in the Rite to the mystagogia. But it is equally useful to teachers in schools or others preparing children for the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, or for faith formation at various stages of Christian life. And for Salesians, it does precisely what Guideline 6 intimated.
Called, Gifted, Sent can be purchased on line from www.kwl.com.au : the book costs AU$15.00 and the journal $ 10.00.
