PLAYTIME FOR RECTORS IN BATULAO

L. Capelli

BATULAO (Phil): 12th October -- After a well deserved rest the Rectors

began a new module on Sunday, with Sr.Leticia Garcia, Daughter of

Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul.

She began her lecture "Play shop" very unassumingly but led the rectors

to deep and serious reflection in response to the question: Where are

you now? She helped reflect through a "Play shop" by simply asking for

four adjectives: "two on what people think about you and two describing

instead who you are really...".

Each group (by age level) had to put the adjectives in a song, skit or

whatever. What came out was quite a show describing thug the seriousness

of the gap between who we really are and what people think. This gap

exists for many reasons, among which probably the fact that at times we

deal with each other not exactly at the core of our

being but from a "functional" relationship wherein we read each other

according to fixed standards or according to each one's map which exists

somehow in our head and gives us a certain perception of things...

The afternoon was spent reflecting on the stages of development

(morning, noon, evening or if you prefer: spring, summer,

autumn...winter. Spring signifying fullness of life, summer fulness of

energy and autumn and winter the slowing down of the performing

abilities while marking a clear growth in other deeper attitudes and

values.

A message came across very strongly. If we relate functionally and focus

on performance sooner or later we might burn more energies than we can

afford to... with serious risks. Fortunately the body will tell us when

things get too far and give us certain signals to bring us to a SHIFT

of focus: from achievement to simple presence, from performance to

interiority... .

One of the things the rectors realized is that in order to be more

caring and nurturing to others they have to take care of themselves

first of

all...
