BATULAO: RECTOR’S MEETING – A FISH-EYE VIEW

L. Capelli

BATULAO (Phil): 7th October – Some fifty four Rectors from Australia, Asia and the Pacific are presently gathered in beautiful Batulao, South of Manila, in yet another of the ongoing formation series dedicated to the support of Rectors in the region. Also in attendance are Fr.Luc Van Looy, Vicar General of the Congregation, and various experts from the region. For one Australian Rector, the culture shock of fish-eye soup will undoubtedly remain the lasting impression of the meeting, but no doubt all will take away with them the incisive contributions of Fr. Luc as he explores the forces that really operate within Salesian communities today, and helps the group to focus on the Rector’s demanding task of being ‘Father, teacher and friend’. Perhaps one of the more important moments of discussion between the rectors gathered there has been the discernment of the typically Salesian style of spiritual direction, something which happens in the daily round, in the encounters that go on between confrere and confrere. We await more news of the deliberations.
