A potpourri of GC27 items

ROME: 12 March 2014
--
This one's a bit of a mixture - probably because the Chapter is a bit of a mixture, from whatever angle one cares to look at it.
There's some international news.
There's a link to the lengthy (13 pages worth) English translation of the RM's and Councillors' responses to questions following the Report on the Congregation - that will be of great interest.
There's some indications of what's happening at the moment ...
.

Questions and Answers
You've seen some of the questions but not the answers.  Take a look.

Some events around the world
News has just come in of an accident at our University of La Paz (Bolivia) where a roof collapsed in a severe hailstorm killing one and injuring six others - it appears that the death is one of our own confreres, a Fr David Bellido.  Details are sketchy at the moment.

Two confreres from the EAO Region have gone to their eternal reward in the past couple of weeks, and both would be known more widely in the Region (or known of). Fr Matthias Mo, originally of CIN, but resident and working in AUL for many many years, has died at a ripe old age. Matthias worked for many years with the Chinese community in Sydney, and was an outstanding artist (painter) amongst many other talents.  And Bro Ramon de la Cruz, (FIN) who worked in PNG-SI for many years, died suddenly recently from a heart attack (74 years of age). He was the bursar at Calauan.  Please remember all these confreres in your prayers.

Some items from GC27
Last Friday saw the presentation of the Working Document, the proposal on structures of Government and the Regions of Europe, presentation of other contributions to the Chapter - from provinces and individuals, including some that arrived late.

The approach to the study of the theme was presented Contributions on all kinds of things but especially on the Constitutions and Regulations, the life of the Congregation. These were presented rather than discussed in detail. That comes later.

The Moderator presented the methodology suggested for discussion of the Chapter theme. There was discussion on this but it gained overwhelming majority support to proceed as outlined.

Some upcoming items
Let's not look too far ahead.  Wednesday 12 March might be far enough (other than the BBQ for the EAO group on Saturday next!)

The Assembly meets first up (9.00), where some texts will be presented from Commissions - one from the Juridical Commission (could be interesting to see if the Missions Councillor role survives this one) and then Commission reports on the first core topic, under the now established approach - Listening and Interpretation.

This kind of thing continues in the later morning session too.

The afternoon sessions will be given over to separate commission meetings.

Thanks for the response to the 'Fonti salesiane' - some have already come in!  Keep that up please!
