And yet another new 'baby'..... for ITM-Indonesia: ASC
TIGARAKSA: 26th May 2009 -- The Salesian Cooperators Association (ASC) came into being in Indonesia on 25th May when 23 candidates made their promise for the first time. As their representative, Mr Laurence Suryanta, said following the ceremony: "After a two and a half year formation, after a short retreat, and having prayed to the Lord Jesus and his Mother Mary, we, with all our hearts, choose to be Salesian Cooperators of Indonesia. This is a special and holy calling....to work in accordance with the Salesian mission".
The Provincial, Fr Calleja, gave each of them a copy of the Rule of Life, reminding them that as members of the Association founded by Don Bosco himself, they are not just to enjoy the name and the glory of being in the Salesian Family, but are to work and fulfill their mission as lay apostles in the Church in the spirit of St John Bosco.
Not all the new members belong to the Parish of St John Bosco. They draw from ten parishes. Sadly, one member passed away in the course of the nearly three years of preparation. The Delegate for ASC is Fr Yohannes Boedihararjo. He, along with a number of Salesians including the World Delegate, Fr Sjepan Bolkovac, Fr Klement, former Regional for EAO and the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Adrain Bregolin, all played a part in the lengthy formation process.
The day was celebrated by many members of the Salesian Family, with reminders from the Provincial of the special care that Mary as Help of Christians has shown to Don Bosco's work in Indonesia. The early Salesians, amongst whom Fr Carbonnel, witness to the fact that her statue and devotion to her were already visible when they arrived in Indonesia. Mary had prepared the path and the strong vocational growth of the Congregation in those parts is also attributed to Her care.
