BP. BOSCO PENHA RELEASES PEACE EDUCATION MANUAL

His Lordship Bishop Bosco Penha released the books: 'Exercices in Peace Education' (Teacher's' Manual) and ' We Choose Peace' (Student's Workbook) during the ocasion of the Peace Sammelan (Peace Meet) organised by the Bombay Archdiocesen Justice and Peace Commission held at Canossa grounds in Bombay on 2 February 2003. These books, published by Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communications, Matunga is the climax of a larger kit on Peace Education consisting of audio, video and printed material.

Exercises in Peace Education is a resource manual containing a series of lessons written for educators of South Asia for the purpose of promoting peace and nonviolence, especially among children and young people. The lessons raise awareness, provoke thinking, challenge stereotypes, point to solutions and incite to action. This is the first of the two volume series meant to educate ages 5 to 17. The Students Workbook helps a student to take his or her first steps on this journey towards becoming a peaceful person.

Exercises in Peace Education and We choose Peace are authored by Peter Gonsalves, sdb who is currently the director of media training at the international headquarters of the Don Bosco Education Society, Rome. His other famous work is Exercises in  Education among others. "Our aim in publishing these books", said Fr. Darryl D'Souza, director of Tej-Prasarini, "is to start a movement in building a culture of peace from the beginning years of a person in school and the home".

FILM FESTIVAL HOSTED BY TEJ-PRASARINI IN MUMBAI

Tej- Prasarni Don Bosco Communications, Matunga hosted a Film Festival of short films on AIDS  prepared by school students at Don Bosco Primary School Hall, Matunga on 23 February 2003. Fr. Ivo Coelho, Provincial, Mumbai Province was the Chief Guest. Ten Schools from all over Bombay attended the festival. Each film was introduced by the students who had made the films. On this ocassion Mr. Mahesh Bhatt, the renowned film director of Bollywood released the three films prepared by the student groups from Delhi (DPS), Nagaland (Don Bosco Youth Centre) and Mumbai (Tej-Prasarini). Representatitives from Nagaland and Delhi were also present. Above three hundred students and invited guests were present at the festival.
 
This project was an effort to spread awareness about the deadly virus by adolescents among adolsescents by using the process of communication. After the screening of the three films, the 30 second spots prepared by the students were screened. The project was supported by UNICEF and managed by Fr. Darryl D'Souza, Director of Tej-Prasarini in Mumbai.

The Salesian Province of Chennai are blessed with 8 Deacons this year. Cls. Robert Abraham, Martin Jones and Kirubagaran Rathinasamy will be ordained Deacons on 19th March at Kristu Jyothi College,Bangalore, Cl. Anthony Pitchaimuthu at Don Bosco Boys’ Home, Sagayathottam on 25th March, and Cls. Joseph Arulraj, Arokiadoss Susai, Amalan Seraphin and Kolandaiswamy Adaikalaraj on 30th March at Kristodayam, Trichy. Kolandaiswamy Adaikalaraj on 30th March at Kristodayam, Trichy.
