DON BOSCO MOVEMENT LAUNCHED

Suva: April 13th -- On a weekend of considerable significance for the worldwide Salesian Family, as three of its members are beatified, the small Salesian community of Nakasi, Suva, Fiji has celebrated in its own little way.  Today, 13th April, saw the launching of the Don Bosco Movement with a gathering of 60 young people from around the city - these 'young' ones included one or two married couples, but all participants held one thing in common - they had attended a certain St. John Bosco Primary school in the city.  It seemed to us the simplest way to go.  Through the existing High schools over some months now, we have contacted all who had once attended St. John Bosco's - they put us in touch with some older ones who have now left school, are at work and/or have begun their own families.

The day was as one would find it anywhere else in the world at a Salesian gathering: celebration of eucharist, a formal meeting to plan for the future, games, a hearty BBQ, more games, and a 'good afternoon' and a blessing to send them all off.  A simple infrastructure of DBM cells has been set up, and these are meeting in their respective areas under their own leaders.  Our young Salesians share out the task of regular contact with the cells and, of course, are the heert and soul of the main gathering.  Another such gathering is planned for 3rd June, on Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day, a major Fiji public holiday.

The 'icing on the cake' for this weekend's gathering, however, has been the presence of three Come and See candidates, all young teacher trainees.  They have been an integral part of the gathering which has been for them, we hope, an encouraging experience of the Salesian mission.
