New missionaries 2004: Half from or to East Asia-Oceania

ROME: 14th Sept'04 --  Two weeks of intense preparation for this year's crop of SDB missionaries have begun before the 'Missionary Send-off' from Turin in late September.  Of the 14 who form part of the two week preparatory course, half are either from East Asia-Oceania or being sent to a mission field in that region.  A further two who are not at the course are already at work in their mission field in the region.

Vietnam province  this year is sending two young confreres to the missions: Deacon Lawrence Nguyen Kim Dien to Mongolia, where he will also be joined by Fr. James Cheruvathur from India-Hyderabad province, and Brother Thomas Phan Van Bang to Mauritius, where he will be joined also by Fr. Ryszard Szczygielski from North Poland province.  One Timorese Brother, Eligio Freitas, goes to Albania, where he will be joined also by Salesian student Oscar Tuscano from Mumbai - Bombay province.  China province receives Fr. Eloy Rios Zurita from Bolivia, and Pakistan (under FIS), Fr. Julio Palmieri from Argentina La Plata.

Fr. Juan Bosco Jimenez, originally of North Mexico province and who arrived in PNG at the beginning of this year, is also a participant in the course.  Two other missionaries have already begun their missionary assignment in the course of this year: Fr. Heraldo Bosquez (actually a member of the 2000 Extraordinary Missionary Expedition) in PNG and Fr. Copola Thiago Cornacchia in Mongolia.

Other mission destinations for this year are Angola (Salesian students Neil Bulathsinghala from Sri Lanka and Stefano Tollu from Italy Adriatic), Cameroon (Bro. Robert Lionelli from Ligure-Toscana province) Peru (Fr. Jozek Kamza from North Poland province), and Sudan (Fr. Michal Wozniki from West Poland province).
