New FMA Provincial of Korea speaks of missionary fruits of 'golden year'

ROME: 19th December 2007 -- Sr Cecilia Choi Cheong Hee, 58 years of age and Directress of Novices and also Youth Ministry Delegate in Korea, is replacing Sr Maria Domenica Park Hye Jaa as Provincial in Korea and is currently in Rome for her 'provincials course'.  She has spoken of the fruits of the recently concluded (23rd November' Golden Year celebrating 50 years of FMA presence on the Korean Peninsula.  In fact the final day of the Golden Year celebrations were also the opportunity to thank the outgoing provincial and welcome in - install - the new one.
According to the new provincial, whose course will conclude on Boxing Day/Feast of St Stephen 26th December, "the main fruits of the Golden Year are many.  First of all, and finally, VIDES Korea was officially established - after many years of struggle to open this new frontier.  Many events during the celebrations focused on fund raising for Ulanbaatar where there is now the first Catholic School (of the normal academic kind) in Mongolia and a community of Sisters already celebrating its first birthday of presence there.  It is a sign of gratitude to the first group of five FMAs who founded the Salesian Sisters' presence in Korea in 1957 - Srs Carmela Solaroli, Ancilla Gritti, Barbara Park, Maria Broccardo and Michela Santiago.  Now the receiving province is mature enough to become a giving one.
The outgoing provincial and one other, Sr Kristina Chang, received their missionary cross and have already left for their new destination in Mongolia.
The Sisters put a special effort into the last 50 days of the jubilee celebrations - helped by the fact that October and November are amongst the best months weatherwise in Korea.  AMongst other things they held a large youth rally with about 3,000 in attendance from all around the nation's 28 FMA educating communities.  The days were also spent in spiritual renewal with seminars on mission, spiritual life and spirituality.  A special jubilee prayer chain of reconciliation was initiated amongst the Sisters and young people as the best start to the next 50 years!
