THAILAND: SALESIAN VICAR ADDRESSES 300 WORLD TEACHER REPS

BANGKOK: 2nd Aug -- From July 27th - 30th, 300 teachers from all five continents gathered at the Royal River Hotel, Bangkok, for the World Union of Catholic Teachers Congress.  The Congress theme was "The Task of the Catholic Teacher: same chaleenges, same goal".  Fr. Luc Van Looy, Salesian Vicar, was amongst the group of four main speakers, the others being Dr. Lourdes Custodio, and Fr. Tamerlane Recuenco Lana OP from the Philippines, and Bro. Visith Srivichairatana FSGG from the Philippines.  The Congress Opening Eucharist was presided over by Bishop George of Udonthani, Thailand.  The Congress made its final revision of statutes which will now be presented to the Holy See for approval, resulting in elections in 2004 according to the new statues.
The WUCT comprises many member organizations - these remained for a general assembly following the Congress.
