A 'vast movement of people to evangelise the young': EAO SF Delegates prepare

SAMPRAN (THA): 16 September 2010 -- Salesian Family Delegates, incorporating a range of people across various Salesian Family Groups, and those responsible for them at provincial and local level, have begun a five day formation seminar in Sampran, Thailand, at the Salesian Sisters' Retreat House. Leadership for this event stems from the initiatives of the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Bregolin and his team, and the Salesian Sisters' Salesian Family formation team in Rome.
Fr. José Pastor Ramirez (World Delegate,  Past Pupils of Don Bosco), Fr. Stjepan Bolkovac (World Delegate, Salesian Cooperators), Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda FMA (General Councillor for the Salesian Family), Sr. Maritza Ortiz FMA (World Delegate, FMA Past Pupils) and Sr. Maria Trigila FMA (World Delegate, Salesian Cooperators) came from Rome for the event.
The seminar opened on 15 September with the Liturgy of the Word. Then Sr Maria Luisa Miranda, Fr Thepharat Pitisant (the Provincial of the THA Province) and Sr Agnes Nipha Rangabpit (Provincial of the FMA Thai Province) welcomed all the participants. There are 10 SDBs and almost 30 FMAs participating in the seminar.
A Presentation of Thailand - the Land of Smiles and Thai dances from the students of Narivooth School, Banpong (one of the FMA schools in Thailand),  followed the biblical and formal opening moments. The day ended with a Welcome dinner for all the participants of the seminar.
The seminar involves a study of two key documents, one of the Church (Christifideles Laici) and the other of the Salesian Family (the Salesian Family Charter, otherwise known as the Common Mission Statement).  The study is intended to resolve quickly into application, looking in particular at the functioning of local advisory councils and then the challenging but essential discussion of 'networking', more than a buzzword today, but a fairly dramatic change of mentality in an otherwise hierarchically organised institution!
Participants will enjoy a 'cultural day' on 17 September, to resume work on the 18th which will be focused on the charismatic element in the Salesian Family and one other important 'real' factor: the diversity of cultures in the Asian setting in particular, and how these play a role in Salesian Family growth and accompaniment. Delegates from China, Thailand, Korea and the Philippines will speak to this issue.
