PNG past pupils 'partners in nation-building'

PORT MORESBY: 2nd December 2006 -- Sunday December has been graduation day for Don Bosco Technical Insitute (DBTI), East Boroko, Port Moresby. The theme for the graduation was Bosconians: Partners in nation-building136 Bosconians graduated with their Diploma in Technology: Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Machine Fitting and Maintenance and Motor Vehicle; while 54 graduated with their Bachelors Degree in Technical Education with the same majors above and a minor either in Mathematics or in English. 5 students received the St. Dominic Savio Service Award and the Students Representative Council President: Matthew John Siune received the St. John Bosco Leadership Award. All the graduates were very happy especially those who graduated with their Bachelors' degree. Mr. Jerry Kuhena, the Commissioner on Policy- Teaching Service Commission received the graduates as probationary teachers in the teaching force in PNG while Mrs. Prisca Mauve, the Asst. Director on Institutional Development - Office of Higher Education being a Council Member of the National Training Council, recognized the graduates as technical instructors in the technical field. Mrs. Prisca Mauve was the keynote speaker of the day.

    One of the highlights of this graduation was the the Signing of the Renewal of the Affiliation of DBTI with the Divine Word University. Dr. Cecilia Nembou the Vice-Pres of DWU signed on behalf of Fr. Jan Czuba, SVD (the President of DWU) and DBTI was represented by Fr. Luciano Odorico, President of DBTI. Fr. Roger Miranda, SDB, Rector of DBTI and Mrs. Prisca Mauve, representing the Education Department serve as witnesses for the signing. The said affiliation was renewed for five years.

    In the response Matthew John Siune, the SRC President and Leadership Awardee, thanked parents and guardians, educators and everyone who has journeyed with them on behalf of all the graduates. He was very grateful for DBTI which has moulded them into good Christians and honest citizens of this nation. "Thanks for the formation we have received, not only for excellence but for having been formed to become men and women of competence and character. I will always be proud of Don Bosco and his system of education. I promise that I will remain faithful to his ideals. Once a Bosconian, forever a Bosconian!"
