"The Witness" captures Kokopo folks
KOKOPO 24 August 2012 --  Vunabosco thespians together with the performers from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart ( OLSH ), wowed the audience from various parts of Kokopo town on 19 August as “The Witness of Peter to Jesus” became the highlight of the celebration of the recently-concluded Don Bosco day held in the school gymnasium.

For the first time Vunabosco changed from its usual Cultural presentation to a Musical, something that showed the maximum potentials of the students in an operatic way. Colourful and captivating costumes and props delicately prepared and designed by Mrs. Anabelle Ortega and the well-crafted backdrop made by Mr. A’aron Gibson brought the musical to wonders and larger than life portrayal of events.

Prior to this day, an initial presentation was held on Friday,17th August that catered to students from different schools like OLSH, Warangoi High School, and Kabaleo Primary School. The positive reviews it got from those who attended the show strengthened the performers to make the repeat a triumphant success.

This musical was the grandest production ever acted on stage of Vunabosco as evidenced by the hundreds of performers who graced the show. The main performer, John Vianney Mala gave a credible and amazing performance for his portrayal of Peter while Ulrich Rabui gave justice to his role as Jesus. Heldrine Mali and Warren Apia both gave sterling performances as John and Judas respectively. Meanwhile, students from OLSH, Anne Marie Morris, who played as the mother of James and John , Mary Torot as Peter’s wife, Carol Vutia as Mama Mary , were awesome in their song renditions.

All in all, the major and minor characters were made alive by these performers who gave splendid inspiration to those who watched and were touched by the soulful musical. The four month preparation and training of these young men and women served as an eye opener for those who have the flair for acting to cultivate and eventually show their hidden talents.

One lucky member of the audience who won the Raffle Extravaganza draw stated that, “It is indeed such a blessing and a rewarding experience to be a witness to what Vunabosco is doing for the boys and girls of this place. If there is a possibility, I am looking forward to watch another musical such as Jesus Christ Superstar.”

“The Witness of Peter to Jesus” was brilliantly directed by Fr. Clifford Morais, SDB, with the able support of Fr. Roger Miranda, SDB, and the Vunabosco staff.
