Prompt response by Don Bosco hailed in Solomon Island's national Daily

HONIARA: 17th April 2007 -- The prompt response by the Don Bosco Technical Institute has been highly commended by the Rannoggah Simbo Disaster Committee (RANSOSI) and reported in Solomon Island's national Daily The Solomon Star (17th April). The institute last week chartered MV Isabella and headed to Simbo with a shipload of relief supplies on the first weekend after the disaster. It was the first group to provide relief supplies for the Simbo victims - an area hard hit by the earthquake and tsunami disaster.
RANSOSI chairman Reuben Lilo said the prompt response by the institute has saved many lives. “The support you have rendered is much more than we could ever ask or hope for-words can’t describe how thankful we are for your generous support and assistance toward our people,” Mr Lilo said.
Mr Lilo said that such offer to support their limited relief supplies and provision of transportation was a direct answer to the prayers of their people. “Thank you so much Father Luciano Capelli Rector of Don Bosco Technical Institute for being God’s Agent when we needed him most. “Your help and assistance will forever be cherished in our hearts especially those affected by the untimely disaster,” Mr Lilo said.
Mr. Lilo said his committee is aware of the fact that 90 per cent of the Institution’s total funding support was given to relief supplies which covered all the people of Simbo who temporarily relocated onto higher grounds.
The death toll from the tsunami has already reached 52 with thousands remaining homeless, two weeks after the disaster struck.  In the full text of the speech given by Mr Lilo, recognition is given of the fact that it was Don Bosco Tech with the combined assistance of Don Bosco International (a composite of Salesian relief agencies based in Europe) which enabled the quick mobilisation of help.
