New EAO Provincials for MYN and ITM

Based also on ANS: January 15, 2015- Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB, the Rector Major of the Salesians, after hearing the opinion of his Council, has appointed the new superior for the vice province of Myanmar: Fr Charles Saw Thi Han Lwin SDB; and for the vice province of Indonesia-East Timor: Fr Virgilio Da Silva Do Carmo SDB. Fr Francesco Cereda SDB will be present for their inauguration.

We thank the former superior who had served before them.

  New EAO Superiors for Myanmar (MYN) and East Timor (THA)

ANS-ROME: January 15, 2015 - Rev Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB, Rector Major of the Salesians, after hearing the opinion of his Council, has appointed Fr Charles Saw Thi Han Lwin SDB as the new Provincial of Myanmar; and Fr Virgilio Da Silva Do Carmo SDB as new Provincial of Indonesia-East Timor (Timor Leste).

Fr Charles Saw Thi Han Lwin SDB will take up his new role on the 4th of February 2015. He was born 53 years ago in Myanmar; made his novitiate in Anikasan in 1983-4, and his perpetual profession on 3 February 1991 in Yangon. He was ordained priest on 5 May 1991 in Anikasan.

After a period as Economer in the Nazareth community in Anikasan, he was at different times Vice-Rector and Economer and eventually Rector of the Novitiate of Anikasan, and also in- charge of the house of Mandalay and Myitkyina. For the Vice-Province he was once a Vicar and Delegate for the Missions and for Youth Ministry.

Fr Charles will become the third Superior in Myanmar. The MYN Vice-Province was erected in 2004, although the Salesians were already present in the country since 1939. There are seven canonically erected communities plus four other houses. The Salesians number 83 in total.

Fr Virgilio Da Silva Do Carmo SDB was born on 27 November 1967 in Venilale, East Timor. After a year of novitiate, he made his first profession in Fatumaca, East Timor, on 31 May 1990. He made his perpetual profession in Parañaque - Philippines on 19 March 1997. He was ordained priest on 8 December 1998.

Fr Virgilio was Master of Novices and, at different times, member of the House Council, Vice-Rector, and Rector of Fatumaca. He currently is the Delegate for the Association of Mary Help of Christians and also the Delegate for ITM Formation. When he takes up his role of animation and government on January 28, 2015, he would be the 4th superior of the vice-province.

The Salesians have been present in East Timor since 1927 and in Indonesia since 1985. Overall the Vice-Province has 193 Salesians working in 16 houses.
