Pacific-centred Salesian World Map Mercator Projection

SEOUL: 13 November 2012 --  Really, you have it all in a nutshell in the title.  Would you like a high resolution print-ready Salesian world map using the common Mercator projection?  Then it is yours by clicking on the above link (map) and downloading it - but be warned - it is hefty!

There is, of course, an 'official' Salesian world map, and this same customary Europe-centric map (updated to 2102) would have already been offered to Provinces already.

Just about every province, if not in fact every province in the Salesian world has a good number of large Salesian wall maps - by now all out of date.  These did not belong to the Salesians as such or rather, were not produced directly under the auspices of the General Administration in Rome, but by an Italian based Salesian NGO - which meant they 'owned' the map and updating it was not so easy.

So, given that the chief layout manager for the Salesians 2013 magazine had completed his work a little ahead of time, and that there was a week or two to spare before he returned to Korea (we are talking of Bro Hilario Seo SDB), he was asked if he could produce the same map, print-ready, and updated for 2012 - and of course if that were possible, as it was, we would then have a map that could be easily updated each year when new statistics are available, or as often as is considered necessary or useful.

The rest of the world (that is, other than countries that flank or are amidst the Pacific Ocean), are accustomed to a Europe-centric view of the world - that's what they want!  But it would be a pretty much certain bet that a good number of other countries with a Salesian presence linked to the Pacific would appreciate another version.

So it is yours if you want it. Now, since it is a print-ready pdf, and replete with every possible Salesian detail you could want, it weighs a hefty 100+ Mb, but with a good bandwidth you should be able to download it fairly quickly - a matter of a few minutes. Others without the bandwidth may have to wait considerably longer.

All Salesian details use Volume 2 of the 2012 'Annuario' or Yearbook as their yardstick, so if some statistical feature seems incorrect to you, then the complaint should go to the compilers of the Annuario rather than the mapmaker!  Nevertheless, if you do find an error, don't hesitate to let us know and we'll pass it on.
