A special weekend in Japan province

TOKYO: 23rd June 2008 -- Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June were two particularly special days for the Japan Province, that saw all the Rectors and Provincial Councillors gathered at Yokohama.  This is a twice-yearly event but this time permitted the assembled group to hear directly from Fr Puppo (provincial) and Fr Cipriani (delegate) of their experiences at GC26.  In the light of this the group then looked more closely at the provincial directory and rectors' manual.
In particular, the meeting took up the fourth part of the provincial directory with reference to formation.  The exchange of ideas will be especially helpful to the provincial formation commission now developing its province formation plan.  The rectors' manual will undergo some retouching before it is presented for approval by the 2010 provincial chapter.  A further theme tackled was that of re-dimensioning of works, already long in discussion but due to be formulated in concrete guidelines this year.
The climax, though, of the meeting was the Saturday evening province day festivities for the Tokyo/Osaka area.  There were some 80 who took part including novices and aspirants.  Confrères who are celebrating their 50th and 60th anniversaries of priesthood, and 25th and 50th of profession were remembered in a special way, including those prevented from attending by ill health.  A fraternal remembrance of confrères who have 'gone to the Father's Home' was also part of the event.
The celebrations were brightened by songs from the aspirants and others in formation and a magic show from Fr Muramatsu.
