Our Lady of the Nations - from a thoughtful reader

TOKYO: 8th October 2009 -- A thoughtful reader from Japan dropped a line on the occasion of the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. commenting as follows:
"Recent news of the typhoon (one just passed through our area this morning) and earthquakes with tsunami in our region reminded me of the prayer below. And thanks to your service we are able to pray more consciously for all those affected by the disasters".
The prayer, which is available below, of course has a story behind it, the most interesting part of that being the request to Pope Benedict to consider declaring Mary as spiritual mother of all humanity. Just where that will go is beyond you or me to determine, but we would undoubtedly share the sentiments.
As many of the provinces in our region have been so sorely tried by natural disasters in the past fortnight, and we are now in October, the month of the Rosary, it seemed opportune to offer this prayer, and to thank our reader for providing it. The prayer has the approval of the Congregation for the Faith.
----
Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of the Father,
Send now your spirit over the earth,
Let the Holy Spirit live
in the hearts of all nations,
That they may be preserved from
degeneration, disaster and war.
May the Lady of all Nations,
The Blessed Virgin Mary,
be our advocate.
